Amusingly enough, the folks at the Decipher booth acted as if nothing were amiss. There were card game demos running all weekend, and both Star Trek and Lord of the Rings roleplaying product prominently displayed. There were even a handful of Trek games in the schedule.

One of the booth staffers even went so far as to insist that there was an Order book for LOTR (covering Loremasters and Magicians, I believe) in the advanced stages of production.

And has been for a over a year...

In their defense they did finally release Helm's Deep, so Paths of the Wise shouldn't be too far behind. Maybe. Hopefully.

Gifts is sucha misleading word :P

But before we hijack this thread completely, perhaps we should stop or get on topic no?

I think the idea of the Prime Directive folks taking over Star Trek RPGs would be a disaster. While they produce a lot of stuff for thier own line, look closely at the quality of the work. It is somewhat comic booky and childish.

They missed the entire point of Star Trek and are simply the most developed of the "cool ships and lots of fights" camp.

See, your snarkiness aside, we're more alike than different.

Yea, but HD is softcover and 2-color B&W (well, sans 32 pages), meaning they slammed this thing out as cheaply as they could. All the products were laid out with full-color and the beautiful layout seen in the pre-implosion releases. Something of mercy/pity printing.

I continue to contend there won't be any Trek releases (by Decipher).

I wonder if Decipher has considered releasing the books they have finished (and presumably approved) as print-on-demand PDFs at, say, RPGnow.com? I've bought a couple of these over the years, and the quality is quite good. Interiors wouldn't be full color, but I could certainly live with that. Hell, I could live with them just being released as PDF, without the POD potential. I can take the sucker to Kinko's to get it bound if I really need to.

Dude, you're like freaking me out, here.

Oh, and has been stated, Coda is, for all intents and purposes Icon 2.0.

Without the awesome career advancement/lifepath from ICON... I know you lobbied for it and I think it was a damn shame not to have it... really helped players flesh out their characters careers and lives as they went along, as opposed to just sitting down and calculating a bunch of advancements.

    Sigh...

[Tangent] There was a small camp (Matt and myself?) who wanted to keep the lifepaths or put in something like the old FASA RPG. Obviously that got shot down.

But how could it work? Would you have each tour be an advancement? How do you determine xp per tour? Would rolls be random for length? I know you didn't get to make it, I am just spitballin' here.
