Recasting Kirk

I think Benjamin Bratt would make a great Star Fleet captain...just not a good Kirk.

I'm kind of against using Trinneer as Kirk, if only because of his fantastic work as Tucker; almost without exception, when they've reused an actor, it's been someone who was a minor character or who was buried under the prosthetics of the week. The only major actor I remember them reusing where you could recognize him was Mark Lenard. (You couldn't tell a thing about Aron Eisenberg under the various makeup effects they used on him, and Rene Auberjonois looked sufficiently different as Odo that his appearance as Colonel West or the hologram engineer on Enterprise don't quite count in my mind.)

I could be wrong; it's happened.

I still think Wahlberg would be the best choice of the two I've thrown out, though.

How about Michael Weatherly of NCIS? His role may be frat-boy childish on that show but the dude is a year older than me.

Can't believe he let go of Jessica Alba (Dark Angel co-star).

This is probably going to get me shot down like the Hindenburg, but I've been pondering this question for a number of years, and one name seems to keep coming to mind.

There's one actor who has an excellent commanding presence, has a considerable background/familiarity factor with science fiction, and seems like an all-around professional entertainer.

It works only if you're willing to disallow color as a deciding factor.

Here he is:Larry Fishburne

His role in Event Horizon (an otherwise undistinguished movie) made me sit up and take notice: he did a fantastic job as the ship's Captain, combining strength, grace, poise, vulnerability and a go-down-with-the-ship attitude that I thought James Kirk would have given a solid vote of approval to.

Opinions? Am I totally off my rocker, or do we have a consensus of sorts here?

Michael Rosenbaum as Spock.
George Eads as Scotty.

If I remember correctly, REG, I think it's the guy who plays Lee Adama (Apollo) on the new Galactica.

Might not be a bad choice, IMNSHO.

Okay, this is my third attempt at posting in this thread.

I agree with REG about Michael Weatherly, for many of the same reasons. My only concern about Weatherly, though, is his height. I would make casting Spock more difficult (I believe that Spock should remain taller than Kirk).

George Eads as Scotty? Perhaps...I'd like to see a real Scotsman in the role, though.

Of course, I was thinking that Colin Firth (an Englishman), has the physical features of a McCoy, although I don't know how good he is at accents.

Will Ferrell. He's the only guy I know that is tall and lanky enough to be Spock for Weatherly's Kirk.

Gerard Butler is the only Scots actor I can think of off the top of my head. Liam Neeson is another.
