    Recasting Kirk

Let's say for fun you were going to reimagine TOS today and recast the role of James T Kirk... who would you choose for the role?

Who captures the spirit of Kirk (which would remain intact in the reimagining) in your opinion?

Can we also not turn this into a "I would kill them if they reimagined TOS" etc... thread... this is meant as good clean fun and not soap box time

Mark Wahlberg or Matt Damon. Both are about the right age (Kirk in TOS started at 33), both are good-looking without being pretty boys, and both have no problem with the physical aspects of the role. Both have a presence about them that I think would serve them well, too.

    YMMV, but remember...you asked.

Corin Nemec. He can play the drama, the comedy and they physical sides of the role.

I keep coming up with ideas and all of them on further consideration would actually work better as Spock... *sigh*

Well, share anyway. Logically, the next character to be recast would be Spock anyway, so....

While Kirk may have been 33 when he got the Enterprise (and Shatner was 35 when he got the show), Shatner looked older than his age and more mature I find.

    YMMV

Are we going for action comedy or action drama?

    Comedy? Horatio Sanchez.

    Drama? Benjamin Bratt.
    Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

    Hmmmmm....

How about Ben Afleck? The Shatner was not a pretty boy, but looked solid and had a bit of a cheeky grin. I think that Afleck can do that. That said, he is a little tall for the part! If not, how about Hugh Jackman? He would have to neaten up, but he has got the heartthrob bit for the ladies, does funny and irreverant pretty well and would have little problem with the physical side, and losing his shirt! LOL

Who would people cast for the other major characters?

    Cheers

Okay...who do we get as Spock? Christopher Walken?
A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

I think Jude Law could do the Kirk part and Christian Bale could play Spock or the actor that played Taurik in TNG and Voyager. On the other hand seeing BSG reimagined, Spock could end up to be a woman

Were Trek to be re-imagined, I think that the only character who COULD (note, I didn't say SHOULD) have thier sex changed would be McCoy. The Dr. could work as either a male or female.

But back on topic... Tim Daly?

Altho I think they need to go with a newer face.

    Oh, it's SO simple.

    Shatner was 33.
    I'm 33.

I'm assuming a new TV show for the recasting:

Since they love reusing actors on the series, I think Connor Trineer would be an excellent choice for Kirk. The Hispano-Kirk suggested earlier just seems wrong.

OK, First, you're on, but only if I can play Scotty.
