Meh. I'd go with Beyonce Knowles.

And for comedy, Maya Rudolph ... with Rachel Dratch as Irina Chekov.

Staying with "Television actors" who are much more cost-effective as opposed to "Movie only actors" who have much higher salary:

Kirk: Nathan Fillion (he's just all captainy-like)
Spock: Gary Cole (ever seen American Gothic? He can be otherworldly)
McCoy: Tony Shalhoub (nod to Galaxy Quest)
Scotty: Tim Curry (let's do the time warp...)
Sulu: Tia Carrere (girls really CAN drive)
Chekov: Nicholas Lea (dark and brooding, Chekov was too Monkees anyway)
Uhura: Gina Torres (she does have a way with words)
Rand: Eliza Dushku (no reason... I just like the idea of her in miniskirts)
Riley: Jim Fyfe (can't you just imagine it?)

    Guest Stars

While I'm at it... some notable recurring stars:

Fleet Captain Pike: James Morrison (role should be expanded)
Commodore Decker: Terry O'Quinn (same here)
Captain Koloth: Adam Baldwin (who wouldn't want him as a recurring guest?)
    Harry Mudd: William Shatner (HAW!)
Sarek: Leonard Nimoy (who else could possibly play this?)
Trelane: John de Lancie (we all know he grew up to be Q...)

Hate to say this about my local part-filipina girl, but I'd rather go with the other filipina, Lexa Doig.

Um, that was the intention back in the 60's. Have a guy that looks like the one of the Monkees (or Paul McCartney of the Beatles) to get young'uns to watch.

In this case, you might as well cast Smallville's Tom Wellings, or one of the two brothers in WB's Supernatural.

How about Jerry O'Connell as Scotty?

Actually Chapel had the crush on Spock, Rand at best had one on Kirk, but even then I don't recall it being played up...

His face is deceiving but he appears way too young (about as young as Trip). You might as well use someone like Gerard Butler or Jason Connery (though the last time I have seen him, he was on Smallville a few seasons ago and a bit tubby).

I think nathan Fillioin would make a good Kirk after watching the Firefly/Joss-athon on Space today.

    My .02 creds

Kirk: Michael Weatherly...he does have the look
Spock: Robert Patrick (He can do the cold look pretty well)
McCoy: kinda up in the air on this one
Scotty: Tony Shalhoub (oh, why not)
    Sulu: Daniel Dae Kim
    Chekov:
    Uhura: Gina Torres
    Rand: Anna Panquin
    Nurse Chapel: Famke Jansen
A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

    So does Brendan Fraser.

Actually, he's a dead ringer for one of Mudd's robots.

Probably why he worked well in Terminator 2.

Can't really find someone to fit the "ole country doctor" suit well.

Because I like my Chief Engineer Scottish?

We could make Tony Shalhoub an Indian Chief Medical Officer.

    Recasting Trek

    In the Mirror Universe, yeah...
No, really... so in the Mirror Universe he'd be an evil, lecherous hump?

    He doesn't actually scream Vulcan
LOL! And the guy who played Tuvok did?

Not exactly Scot, nor do I find a cross-dressing engineer appealing.
Nor was the Canadian Doohan. Have no idea if he cross-dressed though.
There is a certain symmetry in Rocky Horror since Marina Sirtis was the original Magenta.

Um, that was the intention back in the 60's.
Sorry, thought it came across that I knew that.

    Not really. Who is he?
Well, John Billingsley (Phlox) was "Timmy the Geek" on X-Files.
Jim Fyfe was "Jimmy the Geek".
For fate's sake, he played a guy named Riley in an Alien Nation tv movie.

Please, don't use dark color fonts like DARK RED against a dark background like BLACK.

Sorry, but no. The original Magenta in the stage version of The Rocky Horror Show was Pat Quinn, who also appeared in the role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The stage play debuted in June 1973, when Marina was only 13 or 14 years old (depending on which biography you use). Marina actually played the role in 1985 on a European tour with shows in Munich and Milan.

When I first read this question the first name to pop into my head was Ben Browder. I think he would be perfect to play the Kirken. He does comedy as well as he does heavy drama. If you have any doubts as to his range just watch his character arc in Farscape. He goes from light (and sometimes heavy) comedy to the ragged edge of insanity with ease.
I kind of like Robert Patrick as Spock though.
Ewan McGregor would make a good Scotty, but where would you get his salery?
I'm with Nimy on Eliza Dushku as Rand, she would be great in a miniskirt every ep.
But since the title of the thread was figuring out who would be a good Kirk, I have to reiterate that Ben Browder would be perfect.

I think Daniel Craig might do well in the role. (British actor, was the son of Newman in Road to Perdition .)
