Where no man has gone before? Apparently not...

George Takei, Star Trek's Hikaru Sulu, has publicly admitted his homosexuality.

Personally, I think that anyone who takes such a public stand on such a public matter, in the hopes that it will help to make the world a better place, is a person who deserves a great deal of respect.

    Thank you, Mr. Takei.

    Just my not-so-humble opinion... YMMV.

Maybe I'm just technically inept, but I couldn't get your link to work.

However, a quick google revealed this:

    Hope it helps.

And quite a confession BTW. But, truth be told, I don't think it was really a secret in the first place

I think he mangled the code slightly - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051028/...e_george_takei

    I managed to unravel it

I guess I don't care one way or the other: I'm mature enough to know an actor is not his character

When I met the man on a the set of a show called "Space Cases" that was shot in Montreal, I knew right away. I seem to have excellent Gaydar... but the funny ting is... unlike some other Hollywood guys I know are gay and have been outed by everyone possible... I never had the desire, and apparently anyone else who met Mr. Takei (it isn't that hard to tell he is homosexual) never did either, to tell people he was gay.

I think is just such a class act and all around nice guy.

Welcome out Mr. Takei, I will always treasure my meeting you and the generosity of time and respect you have shown so many fans over the years.

    Cheers!

It shouldn't matter what his sexual preference is. He is still the same person, with additional information added to his publically known knowledge.

    Congradulations to him.

But should this really be a big thing? If we're all so accepting and PC, shouldn't we not have to have these great big news stories of someone being a non-heterosexual? Shouldn't we all go, oh, that's nice, then continue on with our life, and continue to treat him like we have been. As a just another individual.

It's not like he's announcing that he's a militant homosexual that seeks to convert all others to follow his life style. To quote Foamy: "Oh, Come on!"

    SO again, congradulations to him.

I will simply respond by repeating the conversation that ensued when a friend outed himself to me.
    "I'm Gay."
    "... 'kay..."
    "..."
"... are you telling me this because..."
    "Oh, GOD no."
"All right, then. What's on TV?"
"I think 'DS9's on channel twelve."

    *time passes*

    "...waitaminnit. Why NOT?"
    *much laughter ensues*

So, you can see what a big deal this is for me.

I've had almost that exact same conversation before...

I guess most of us who have gay friends, have had a (very) similar conversation with them. I know I have as well

A: when I saw the article title the first time (somewhere) I was glad it was something as mundane as coming out of the closet, too much celebrity death lately.

B: I could care less. No, I'm not anti-homosexual, though I do live in the heart of Bush County (Waco, Tx), if the man feels comfortable enough to come out after all these years it's his business, more power to him and hope he does well in life from now on; since it seems that the U.S.A is becoming anti-gay to a degree.

I'm in the same boat: I couldn't care less if he's gay or not. It doesn't change how much I like his acting.

    God bless you, George.
