There's a bit of variance for imaging and the sector cordinates I use. (I cheat and have a master sector overlay)

So measure the sectors around Sol. They are 20 x 20 ly. And hopefully around 1cm = 20 ly.

But just use the sector boxes as your guide.

Yeah some peolpe have problems viewing/saving the maps. But not me; I always verify the upload.

Anyhows he's the latest 'scribble' :

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Fedsiz...0Political.JPG

Has been some differences such as more fed and less carddie space.

The DMZ is now the small area south of Bajor.

Most of the minor powers are in now.

Oh and all that extra neutral space around Cardassia. Plenty of room for the Dominion to expand into.

The feds just happened to be in the way

Plus abit more neutral/un charted space over near the fed/kling border. c/o some sectors that were getting explored,

    Sir Sig:

You might consider saving these images as GIFs instead of JPeGs. While JPeGs are wonderful, their nature is inherantly unstable. That is, certain pixels will change on a reload. I'ts just the nature of the compression method used.
These images would be enormous as BitMaPs because they include a large blank area, and that is part of why JPeG compression works so well, but they also contain only a few colors, which lends itself to GIF.
    Just a tip.

Hmmm, I thought JPG would be ideal. BMP's would be megs worth

Okay I'll try a GIF and see.

Any other thoughts on the maps SpyOne?

    Actualy sig

When i try to save them, they only come up as BMP (and at 45 Megs!!!!!!)

Are you saving them as a Bit Map, or as JPEG's?

    Hmmm I don't know.

Some days yahoo gives you a zoomed pic and others not.

If you actually go the files folder, then you can right click and save normerly with the right name and jpg format.

But your right the direct link is a untitled bmp.

So in that case go here:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Fedsize/files/

And then save target as on the New Political.jpg and you should be fine.

On a side note Qerlin, I'd never really tried that. I was trying to keep all the powers as seperate entities.

But that could certainly fill up some space and make it more realistic in a 2d conversion of a 3d world

Suggestion -- especially since the aren't canon to the show -- make the Taurhai a bigger area, expanded own toward the Klingons. I get teh impression from the Rommie books that they are a BIG problem; very powerful.

Suggestion 2: don't just loop the UFP around the other races. Unless there is a specific buffer zone, just have them reside inside the UFP's borders (groups like the Gorn, Son'a, and Tzenkethi). They have their space inside UFP territory; might explain constant troubles with them -- they are space-locked within the Federation, so any expansion immediately cuases friction.

    Otherwise, great job.

    The thread that won't die.

I've revisited this for the first time in ages, since I have a Klingon-Dominion War to think about... Betreka Nebula, site of a decade long "incident" between the Cardies and Klingons and I like how you've placed it.

I initially had some problems with the size of the Cardassian Union - initially I thought it was a bit too big. I think you may have over-shrunk it a little bit, but I do like the smaller size. After all, look at the size of Germany and Japan - not massive nations, but they had quite a string of successes in WWII.

What I do find a bit odd is the snake-like nature of the Federation. I think the "western" Federation seems perhaps a bit too isolated. Just my opinion though, no real facts either way.

I did just recently get Star Trek Maps and I see how complicated mapping in 3D really is...
