Creating a Star Trek Stargazer like Space station.
In the Star Trek Stargazer novel Oblivion. For those who have not read the novel the space station Oblivion was a collection of old out of use derelict starships. A space station like this could create a source of real adventures.
Located in orbit of a D-Class planetoid with no star to give it light a heat source. Several of the derelicts have crashed on the surface of the planet. These vessels are at least seventy percent intact.
Dave and I have been creating an Oblivion like station. It is located somewhere near Klingon space in the twenty-fourth century. The collection of ships already include an old Klingon D5 Cruiser, an old pair of Klingon freighters, at least three derelict Antares-class freighters, two Federation cargo pods from the Ptolemy–class and a Whorfin-class Transport. This station will have starships stretching across three centuries of Star Trek. That’s is the collection so far.
I’ve found this works well for making a vessel derelict and attaching it to the station. When gutting out every system not useful; such as warp drive, impulse engines, warp cores (to be replaced with a fusion reactor later), all sensors (on most ships), Navigational Deflector computers, and some of the ships tractor beams, communications systems, auto pilot, navigational Computer, Inertial Dampening Field, attitude control, weapons systems and then some things. What ever can be sold for latinum.
Of these removed systems I return all the Su’s back to the available Su’s but for each system pulled I return only so much to be reused as cargo bays, crew quarters or mercantile facilities.
For ship size two of three I return .25 SU’s back to the use per system removed. For size four and five I return .5 and one Su for every vessel size six and larger. Any vessel whose ship has embedded nacelles I automatically give the vessel six Su’s as the coils are pulled out. This keeps the population on the station low but allows for each ship to have additional crew quarters and such.
Doing this I have noted what ship is docked to where on each ship and which deck the each of their docking ports are located. Some are just ladders from one ship into the belly of another attached to the hull.
A fusion reactor usually independently powers each ship. The fusion reactors Su’s come from the regular available SU’s not the special returned. The fusion reactors are usually placed in the old Impulse engine housing. Some of the Vessels such as the Antares-class have a note that the driver coils are damaged. With no need for a fusion reactors, as these ships they already produce enough power to the ship and its shields.
A RUFF BACK GROUND
Sometime during the late twenty-second century the Klingon D5 cruiser engaged in combat and lost it’s port nacelle. Do to its distance from Klingon space at the time the Klingons space at the time the Klingons left it adrift. Soon others began leaving their vessels adrift in the orbit.
A Ferengi Salvage Trader made claim to the derelict vessels and began stripping out resalable components his business boomed. As time went on he took the D5 as his main base of operation pulling the other vessels over docking with them and stripping them.
Transients began to arrive and set up shelters. Now over a century late a small trade outpost has sprang up in its place.
Note:
There is no law enforcement in this collection of ships. Some of the larger ships have small security teams hired by merchants and local businessmen to bring order. Crime nevertheless runs wild.
The population is a mixing pot of nearly every species from the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. The most populous species is the Ferengi with nearly two hundred on board.
Fifty or sixty Klingons and seventy Nausicaans. Orion syndicate has a presence on board the station. In some of the Entertainment facilities Orion women can be found as dancers and pleasure women.
