I am not a fan of Voyager especially after End Game in my opinion one of the worst episodes in the franchise.

Saying that, regardless of my personal tastes in Star Trek, Voyager has a right to their fans. I have friends who got into Trek through Voyager. If it brings fans fine, if it makes mindless Trek Drones then that is bad. I'd rather have an open debate and see through a friend who is a fan's eyes, why they liked it and not the other series. We have interesting talks, I still maintain my opinion and she hers.

Now Voyager is in the timeline and the Intrepid and all the tech there are Trek related. So we must use them as examples as well when debating the shield issue and tech issues this thread is really about.

But hold that fist of death in check, C5, we do not want to lose posters and fans of our favorite franchinse!

Silverstreak, could you please try to restrain yourself while you are here. I'm not saying this because I feel personally offended by what you said, in fact, Voyager and Enterprise are the two Trek series I like least, but this is the second time this month that I found your behaviour impolite and/or insulting.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but there is a difference between:

    Voyager fans have no taste.

    and

Voyager fans have no taste. /

::dons moderator hat:: Not to mention that the discussion is about the starship combat system, not which series you prefer. ::doffs moderator hat::

As others have said, the system is built to take ALL versions of Trek starship combat into account. As one example, I know for a fact that the designers wanted a system where you could recreate the feel of the space battles in Star Trek II specifically.

That they did, I agree with that, Doug. Only thing I wish they did was have something like minatures or tokens to use when you are in ship combat, but

The Starfleet Battles minatures are TOS, I have not run a TOS Era game yet. So I just use pegs.

I find it difficult at times in the beginning, when teaching ship to ship combat to your players that your actions on the ship and rolls how they can help each other is foriegn to most players as it usually is a group effort to beat the Klingons off the Starboard Bow. Takes a little bit of time, since that part of combat is relatively different than most RPGs people have played.

Once you pass the klunkiness with the players you can have a great game.

I'll be honest, I've been running this game since it came out, and I have never had any problems with the starship combat system. Admittedly, the man who designed the system was in most of the groups I ran games for, but for the past two years, he has not been involved. I introduced the starship combat system to a group of players who had never used the system before and had no problems getting them to wrap their minds aorund the idea that the system was meant to mirror what we saw on screen...

I'll try not to take the remark about Enterprise personally...though the way you state it here, it sure seems like it's meant to be. (One should avoid blanket statements such as this.)

It is a well known fact Voyager and Enterprise didn't bring in the audiences that TNG and DS9 did. If they did, Star Trek would still be on TV, that is a fact, not speculation.
Actually, it is just speculation. You have exactly zero evidence to back it up.

As to the shield issue, I'm wondering if we, in fact, watched the same shows, since you're pretty much dead wrong as far as I can recall.

Te rules still seem strange to me, but with another endorsement of them, I'm beginning to think that they will FEEL good when used.

    This is good.

Actually I have Neilson to back it up. That's what the producers and bigwigs look at. And they say they didn't have the support.

I don't think so. Not from what I see.
