Post FASA's History of the Constitution Class

One of the neat things FASA did in their books was give you lists of ships of a given class, and/or data on their fates. Of course, the Constitution Class got the full treatment.
While FASA dates do not match canon dates, they did guess a lot of things correctly (like the big E being 19 when Kirk got her and her refit coming 5 years later). Which got me thinking that folks might like to see it.
I put all the data into a database, and sorted it. What I have is a chronological list of things that happened to Constitution Class ships.
It needs some explanation. First, you will see some ships commissioned twice. The second is a replacement for a ship that was lost, which you should also see. Some ships have the roman numeral "II" after the name. This is because they ship they are replacing was Lost, and could be re-discovered.
The Mark II has phasers instead of lasers, and better shields. The Mark III adds a better Warp Drive to that. Kirk got a Mark III. The Mark IV uses upgraded photon launchers, shields, and impulse engines. The Enterprise was to be upgraded to Mark IV when it was refit instead, with new Nacelles and other upgrades. Mark VI's have more power, uprated phasers, and better Impulse engines. The Mark VII adds more and better torpedo launchers, more phasers, better Impulse engines again, and an uprated computer.
All this is per FASA, circa 1985.

My attempts to format that appear to have failed.
BTW, I adjusted all the dates. They follow the exact FASA order, but what FASA called 2188 I made 2245 (comissioning of USS Enterprise). That's a difference of 52 years, so I just added 52 to all other dates.

Does no one care, or is it just that you all feel you have nothing to add?

    Chirp, Chirp.
Hi Spyone, I've been doing some similar things using some of the FAA information for ships in my campaign. While there are some problems between cannon and FASA dates, most TOS stuff can be dated either according to the launch of the Enterprise, or by ST: TMP.

If anyone's interested in this stuff then they may like my page on the subject:

    http://steve.pugh.net/fleet/con_fasa.html

I've stuck with FASA dates on the page itself but it's easy enough to convert.

That is one classy looking site. !

I must confess that I prefer the FASA placement of TMP. I seem to think that my impression when I first saw TMP was that it was supposed to be about 10 years after TOS, which makes a lot of sense given that it really WAS about 10 years (and thus, everyone was 10 years older). This moves TMP closer to TWOK than some people would like, but ....
Well, tough! Kirk had 2 5-year missions, IMO, and the refit didn't begin until 2274 at the earilest. TMP was somewhere from 2277 to 2279, and TWOK was 2285.
    But I'm ranting.

That site is nice. The timelines are a little off, but considering what B&B are doing, Icould live with it.

Just wanted to say, this Constitution class list is pretty smooth. I may never need it, but it's nice to have!

    Slick site, Identity Crisis.

    Identity Crisis,
I was poking around your site reading things, and got to your thing with the inconsistancies and the USS Interepid.

You seem to have fallen into a trap. While we know that USS Voyager is a new ship, and packed full of nifty goodies, we don't know how long the Intrepid Class was around before Voyager was built.
So, it is quite possable that Geordi was competing with the Chief Engineer of the USS Intrepid that was prototype for the Intrepid Class, and had been in service for 6 years (built in 2264, when the Enterprise was launched.). Or at any date in between. In fact, if you are willing to ignore the idea that the designs have been "evolving" towards a Voyager-like design, the Intrepid could pre-date the Galaxy Class.
    Whatever suits your tastes best.

That's because there are three different timelines in use:

The 'official' Okuda/Paramount timeline - TOS as years 3-5 of the five year mission in 2266-2269, TMP in 2271, TWoK in 2285, etc.

The fandom timeline as described by James Dixon - TOS as years 1-3 of the five year mission in 2260-2263, TMP in 2267, TWoK in 2287, etc.

The FASA/Space Flight Chronology/Shane Johnson timeline - TOS as years 1-3 of the five year mission in 2207-2210, TMP in 2217, TWoK in 2222, etc.

My site mainly uses a slighty modified version of the first timeline but some dates are direct quotes from sources that use the others. The Constitution pages are probably the most confused as this is the area with the largest number of contradictory publications.

That's true; sometimes when you deal with more than one source of information you do run the risk of some conflict.

    Apparently I was wrong.
Star Trek:The Magazine generally tends to be fairly acurate, avoiding concrete statements unless backed by canon. It says that Voyager was the second Intrepid Class ship built, which probably means someone said so in an episode I missed.
    (Sigh. Stupid people.)
So, I recind my comments, Identity. You are right about when USS Intrepid must have been built.
