1973?? We didn't have warp drive back then.

    Don't you mean 2373?

BTW, If you just want to bang up thier ship and show them that how tough the Jem'Haar are, set the adventure in 2372. At that time Starfleet's shields don't protect against the Jem'Hadar's Poleron Beam, so the Jem'Hadar is going to blast right through thier shields. The PCs would have a tought fight, but with torps (and range) they could win the fight. Heck, you might even let clever PCs figure out how to adjust thier shields to stop poleron beams Starfleet figures it ut later in the year-maybe from data collected during this encounter).

Just rember, if you blow up the ship, the characters are nly going to last another 30 seconds or so--and the campaign won't last much longer than that.

It is not my goal to have them loose, their ship, just a 5/8th chance of it. And yes . . . it's because I want to show them how hard the coming times will be. Preferantially their Miranda will survive with a sliver, with lots of damage . . . and this gives them a chance to recieve a quick promotion . . . or a brevet promotion. Thus allowing them to become not-third string bridge officers . . . but second string . . . or maybe even command staff, their actions will determine this.

If they lose their ship . . . their campaign will be different . . . since they will be assigned to support the ground forces . . . as the only one who has hashed out his character has built it around a planetary warfare skills.

This would also allow them to continue to play in the grittier worlds that they are use to in other systems.

Maybe after getting almost killed by Jem'Hedar . . . or being left on a planet, nearly defenseless . . . they may want to move to the stars. Two years can be a long time in the trenches.

    New Question

Support vessels, that are under the Naval Vessel Registrar . . . but operated by Sealift Command, in real life, are labelled USNS rather than USS.

What would be the Starfleet Equivalent?

I'd imagine they'd be USS too. Starfleet seems to be more integrated than most modern organizations.

    Another question

What would be pretty good ICON stats for a Breen Cargo Transport? Would it have the same weapons (but lower strength) as a Breen Warship?

I suggest you just use the good old Antares Class Transport Ship as a guideline, add some Weapons, upgrade the shields a bit.
But keep the upgrades not too obviuos - so it can still be used for smuggling contraband.

A freighter- even one emloyed by the Breen - needs no massive weapons.
They just need Space for Cargo, lots of Cargo. Weapons use up space and are expensive to maintain- and rouse an eyebrowe where ever you take your ship -youre suspected to be a pirate, a mercenary or even worse.

Just disruptors for defense and no Missiles would do nice.

OK . . . thanks for the ideas. I have having them infect a federation colony after a normally scheduled cargo run. . . . as plausably unknown carriers of the virus in question . . . or they can run firing . . . I can go either way . . . depending on how the PCs play it.

I'll look at the Antares . . . throw on some disrupters . . . bought from the Orion Syndicate (to cover any loose ties to the ship) . . . and up their shields . . . and have thier hull phasable (to interfer with scans).

I've played my first game in years . . . as the GM . . . we didn't get through the first episode . . . and I need to work on my pacing . . . but there shall be more.

Keep plugging away. It is a sad but true fact about GMing that the most important things you need to learn can only be learned by doing. Every experienced/Good GM that I have known has stories about their rocky start. You just gotta keep at it.

You can always write something simplier for next time. Get somthing that you are comfortable with and rely on that while your build up your experience.

Well all started out the same way.

Well . . . I did the second game on MON, pacing has improved . . . but since they are working on different sections, on the same shift . . . they are scattered . . . except when assigned on away missions, and since they are the most junior . . . they are relying on their NCOs . . . and are being sent down more often then not.

As for the underplot . . . they appear to have seen right into it . . . since it was unusual . . . i mean breen, near breen space, on a federation mining world rich in dilithum crystals. So they are already assuming it is who it is . . before having hard evidence that it is.

So except trying to keep them all together . . . everything is seeming OK. Maybe I might have to stick them on a runabout to make things more smoothly . . . we'll see.

Note: Game ended due to personal conflicts outside of game, and certain people moving.
