    Game Store Demos

I'm going to start running demos/tutorials of the game at some local game shops and I was looking for some advice as to what I should do, provide, etc. at one of these events. Should I have prizes? sample characters or have them create their own?

This is my first time doing something like this and any bit of help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

have sample characters ready as it saves time and effort of creating them on the day, also allows more players to experience the game. have detailed info about each pc so the player can get a feel of them.

Also have multiple adventures ready so each group plays something different.

Have you considered using something like the "Lord Of The Rings" Adventure Game ( http://decipherstore.fanhq.com/Catal...age=1&STo=1268 )?

By the way has anyone used this? Is it similar to the Star Wars D20 Adventure Game that I have been forced to buy at ebay 'cause it was too cheap to let go?

I have it or the similar Moria box set & I don't recall that I have opened it yet, but I think it is similar to Star Wars d20 Adventure Game. I pick up the both of them when a branch of Waldenbooks was closing for 50% or 75% off.

I would suggest the similar yet free Fast Play Rules with adventure, ‘The Road to Henneth Annûn’, that they posted to the Decipher Website. It gets you away from the boxed sets that just use the characters from the books as in this review (although it sounds more like a review of the Moria boxed set).

I suppose you could offer as prizes on CD or in print: Decipher's free adventures including fast play rules, Hall of Fire issues, character generation summary , your tools. If the store(s) you are doing demos at has any LOTR products on the shell, you could see if the store would offer a coupon for a percentage off on the purchase of those products. Hopefully you could get a coupon for each demo player. You could have a drawing if you have less then enough prizes for all of them. Prizes would incentize them to come, as it would not be good for you to do this and have no one show up. You could have them sign up in advance so as to know where any one is coming and where or not to have a drawing or not.

As far what to do, I would suppose what kind of time you might have to do this. You could as a group go through creating a character together then aid them in using doing the final adjustments to the Fast Play Rules characters then play the adventure.

For the one demo I did for my local roleplaying club for Marvel Superheroes (MSH), I show them how to do combat then had them in a tournament like fashion fight using Captain American versus Spiderman. It was well received although most complainted about Captain America losing all the time. I ended up playing a few combats with those out of the tournment and beating all but the Tournament Winner using Captain America. The prize was Karma points for a future MSH character's improvement 'fund.'

Well, I read the review you posted the link to and have to say it's not really encouraging to buy the box, especially if you take into account, that due to cheap stuff used, it's not really a box for long...

Have Decipher changed any of this in the second Adventure box "The Two Towers Adventure Game"? You don't happen to know that or have another review link at hand, don't you?
