Cuteness a hot-selling commodity in Japan By YURI KAGEYAMA, AP Business Writer

TOKYO - Cute is cool in Japan. Look anywhere and everywhere: Cartoon figures dangle from cell phones, waitresses bow in frilly maid outfits, cherries and bows adorn bags, even police departments boast cuddly mascots.

Meh. Our McGruff can take down their PD mascot.

As for the girl, I want to take her down, especially if she's dressed in short frilly maid uniform.
    Anyhoo, just some random thoughts...

    Ask me if I care.

As long she's in her maid uniform, she can be the freakin Commander-in-Chief.

    A hitchhikers guide

There has to be a world somewhere out there that has Pokeman, called pokeman, captured like in the cartoon . . . due the infinite possibilities found in the universe ( just like in hitchhikers guide to the galaxy ). You just have to discover it.

And that's why the Federation explores. Because somewhere out there . . . there is a couch that naturally grows as a plant or beast . . . that is the most comfortable, thing in the universe.

You know, I've been thinking a LOT lately about Trek-as-anime. I see potential.

    A new Animated Series anyone?

(Advantage of animation: basicly unimited SFX budget. Disadvantages: people expect it to be aimed at kids, footage is remarkably expensive to produce whether there's SFX or not.)
You're a Starfleet Officer. "Weird" is part of the job.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn Pro
We're hip-deep in alien cod footsoldiers. Define 'weird'.
(I had this cool borg smiley here, but it was on my site and my isp seems to have eaten my site. )

The only thing is Anime really isn't aimed at kids . . . see Akira . . . and other such movies and series for reference where animation is not limited to youth. For instance . . . a lot of the ideas portrayed in Full Metal Alchemist . . . were aimed at an adult audiance.

It would be interesting . . . and keep it on an Akira Class Cruiser . . . to keep with a theme.

Anyone want to see an Asian Captain? I know I do! But chances are he would be 1/2 Hispanic . . . 1/2 Asian . . . Filipino anyone? Like how about the new Chairman of Iron Chef?

Heh. Only [mainland] Americans have that mindset about animation. Even The Simpsons is tame compared to some imported anime series.

If it has to be anime, it's gotta have groping tentacles in it.

So then after what style? I say go in the way of Ghost in the Shell . . . quasi-realist . . . thus make it more adult oriented.
