Star Trek 2.0 Successful for G4 TV

    Trek Today.com indicates that Broadcast & Cable.com reports --
How to market a 40-year-old series to a target audience of 18-34 year olds? That was the task of Neal Tiles when he became president of the G4 cable network president, resulting in an interactive version of the original Star Trek that is now the network's top-rated show.
Has anyone been watching Trek 2.0? I have seen it a few times. Some the online comments are so lame. And was the big deal about the Spock Market anyway?

I am suprise that Star Trek:TNG has not been a bigger hit for G4.

They talk about G4 limited appeal. Of course they took over a Cable station with more appeal, TechTV, mostly for its nondigital location and remove most of the programs that made it great. Its not too hard to improved its appeal.

Never heard of it, to be honest
A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

I've been watching it fairly regularly. IMO I think the reason for it's success is becuse it is TOS, and you don't see TOS on TV anymore. If one is feeling nostigic, it is nice to see TOS on TV. For some strange reason broadcast TV has a sort of living quality to it that having the product on DVD lacks (and I have TOS on DVD and it looks so much better). Also TV seems to work better as a "background" entertainment while DVD makes me want to stop whatever else I am doing and pay attention). Some of the behind the scense info running along the top bar and even some of the counters, like "number od red alerts" are interesting.

To be honest, I prefer the "uncut" marathon they show on Satudays to the 2.0 versions.

TNG probably won't do as well as TOS for G4 in part because SPIKE TV shows 3 hours of TNG each day (right after 2 hrs of DS9). Even the diehard fans probably don't want to watch that much TNG, and so probably mix and match (I do).

Come to think of it, Star Trek, in one form or another, is filling up something like 20% of the programming schedules for both G4 and SPIKE TV. Has the time come for the STAR TREK CHANNEL?

The UPN channel was built with Star Trek as its backbone . . . however, the rest of the programming that they attempted to put on it didn't mesh with the backbone which the designed the network to work with. Thus, after Star Trek stopped . . . while it was on . . . I stopped watching all the rest of the BS that was on that network. And the fact that Star Trek has ended on TV altogether, for the timebeing atleast, there was no need for the network to exist . . . and thus why it is merging with the WB.

Why doesn't the sci-fi channel just pick up the rights to TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and the four movies. It would be a lot better than the wrestling and law and order crap they have right now. As much as it would be cool (for a couple of weeks, anyway) I realize there's not enough material to mantain a Star Trek channel, but there is plenty to maintain a "sc-fi" channel. So why does sci-fi keep moving away from its namesake?

I like to know that was well, save for BSG, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate, Dr. Who and 4400 theres not much "real" sci fi on the Sci fi channel weekens are awful and usually filled with crapy and campy monster movies. plus most of their original programing for this year was all horror and fantasy related.

Which is exactly why they should pounce on Star Trek whenever the chance presents itself, not watch it go to G4 of all places.

They have Firefly (all 15? episodes) and don't they still show Farscape reruns too? I don't remember.

havn't showed farscape in along while, you can catch a good buck rogers ever so often in the afternoons when they show the 5 hour blocks of older shows use get Trek then as wellm for awhale there they were on a good a schedule origina Trek and BSG, Buck Rogers, Twilight Zone, Outer limits, That one Horror Soap I can't remember the name of.

What drives me nuts is they don't show ANY old movies I mean a regular B movie theater every saturday or something would be nice instead of the crap there making.

BTW they were in the running for TNG and DS9 but CMT now Spike blew there bid out of the water so its not like they have not tried.
