    Post Character Sheets

I need to modify the 4 page character sheet avaiable here so that I can match the colours to my department colours for my players and make the fields active so they can enter their info on omputer and print them out all nice.

    Can anyone help me?

    Question

I take it you are refering to the character sheets by Patrick Murphy? (If not, which ones?)

All you have to do is download the "form enabled" version and that already does what you're asking for. Patrick even made three different versions--one for each department.

The sheets in question are the 7th from the top in the Character Sheets section of the Computer Core.

With the Acrobat Reader you will be able to enter the data, but not save it. (However you might still be able to export the data as a form file and then import it back into the sheet. I'm not entirely sure what the Reader will allow you to do.)

If you want to make color changes to pdf-files you should try to get Adobe Photoshop. You can open pdf pages with it and change them around like any other graphic.
(I am not sure if you can insert these pages back into a pdf-file with Reader or if that would require you to use Acrobat Writer, sorry.)

Unfortunately, purchasing many of the Adobe products is beyond the budgets of most of us...

I'd love to be able to use the form-enabled PDF character sheets running around, but it's rather pointless when all you have is the Reader...

Paul, you can use the form-enabled versions with Reader. You just won't be able to save the file after you've entered the data into the PDF.

I hate it when those sheets print with no text!

Sorry for not making my self a little clearer...

Don, that is what I meant to say. I have Acrobat Reader, and I know I can use form-enabled PDFs with it. Thing is, I'd be wanting to save it so that I don't have to type in everything each time I want to update the character sheet...the one thing that the Reader will force me do.

Paul, here's something you can try. I know this will work but unfortunately I don't know if it requires full Acrobat or just Reader.

Open the sheet and fill in your data. Under "File/Export" use "Export Form Data." This will dump all your data into a form file (.fdf). Next time you want to make changes, open the sheet and then goto "File/Import" and "Import Form Data." Select your .fdf file from before and the data should be properly be plugged into the correct areas without having to retype.

Again, I don't know if this works with just the Reader but it's worth a try.

Don, I tried your advice on a hunch. Unfortunately there is no "export form data" item in my version of Reader (although I admit, I'm using 5.0
    Is 6 out yet?)

    Well, that's too bad.

For anyone with the full version of Acrobat, the form import/export allows you to dump characters into .fdf files that take up very little space. If you simply save the data in the PDF the file will be quite large.

FDF files will automatically load their parent PDF files when clicked on. Using this method I have a slew of NPCs on my system that take up very little room.

Sorry to hear it doesn't work with the plain Reader, though. (Latest version is 5.)

I just wish there were an inexpensive way to do this

I prefer not to fill out a sheet on computer, because I want to be able to erase things and update them during play.

I printed a plain character sheet and scanned it. Then I added the text using a graphics program. It was a long and fiddley process to get all of the text lined up nicely.

Oh and make sure that you save it in a format that allows you to manipulate the text later - I learned that one the hard way.

Gee. With the ability to include graphics into text documents, .... Has anybody done a nice sheet for MS Word?
