Question Question about languages (PG Errata)

The PG errata states that a native-level fluency in a language is cosidered to be Language +6. Does this mean native speakers begin with this skill level, or does the player have to allocate 6 of their (Int*3) skill picks on the language skill?

    Thanks,

The latter. One of the reasons for the increase in species skill picks was to try and normalize things with LOTR RPG, and that includes some of the language rules (especially as outlined in Paths of the Wise.

Since it appears that Decipher has once and for all given up on the RPG, it hardly matters (though I am going to try and at least get errata finished up for all the published books). The intent, however, was to get people to max out their native language in their species skills.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Both sad and infuriating news re: Decipher. .

Decipher really can't go out of business fast enough IMHO!

Do you have to allocate a certain amount of these picks to Fed basic...

Do you have to allocate a certain amount of your INT*3 picks to Federation Basic, or are you just fluent in that for free?

Yes, you have to use your species skill points (INT*3) to get your languages, including Federation Standard.
