    Species Creation

    Hey there.
I burried my project of the GURPS conversion because my gaming group did not really liked that they needed to buy all these new books. They also said that they kind of liked the CODA rules. So I accepted to continue in the CODA system.
I started to download the CODA Webzines Beyound the Final frontier, and the CODA BSR. And I must say I liked them alot.

I'm writing a scenario "Relic of an Ancient War" where the players will investigate terrorist activity on a recentely re-opened mining colony after the Dominion. The Terrorist in question is a creasy Angosian Bio-Engineered Super soldier who was put in stasis by his parents on the abandoned mining colony. The Angosian thinks that he is still in the Tarsian war and that the occupants of the minig colony are his enemies.

I've created the Angosians species (See below), as I think that they should be.
Tell me what you think of them, or if there are others out there that have created a similare version please let me know. All feedback is welcome.

    ANGOSIANS:

    PERSONALITY
Angosians tend to be very formal and correct, adhering rigidly to the rules of their society. Some people may consider them to be a little "stuffy". After decades of war, Angosians are reluctant to resort to violence.

    PHYSIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE
Angosians are outwardly indistinguishable from Humans and show the same racial variations.

    HOMEWORLD
    Angosia III

    CULTURE AND HISTORY
Emerging from a devastating period of war, the Angosian people have focussed on rebuilding their culture into a scientific utopia that values academic excellence above all else. This is a democratic society, governed by an elected body under an elected Prime Minister. Major decisions affecting the entirety of Angosian society are put to a referendum, allowing the Angosian people to have their say.

    LANGUAGES AND NAMES
Angosian. But is seems that most of he Angosians also speak Federation Standard
Male Names: Roga, Nayrok, Zayner, Wagnor
Female Names: Nikai, Ringi, Zayini, Wilptar

    FAVOURED PROFESSION
Angosia was denied Federation membership due to their poor handling of the reintegration of bio-engineered war veterans into their society, so no Angosian currently serves in Starfleet. Angosians who did not serve in the military would tend towards being Scientists.

    SPECIES ADJUSTMENTS
Angosians receive a rigours education to prepare them for their scientific duties, so they get a +1 Intellect. They are also a very perceptive people, so they get a +1 perception. But because of their "stuffy" attitude they get a -1 Presence.

    SPECIES ABILITIES
Bonus Edge: Curious: Angosians are eager to know how things work and are adept at unlocking life’s mysteries.
Bonus Edge: Eidic Memory: All Angosians receive a rigours education from a young age.
Bonus Edge: Resolute: Once an Angosian made up his mind it is difficult to change it.
Scholarly: During their young age, Angosians are encouraged to turn their interests towards scientific study. Angosian characters choose one skill from the Science skill group and gain a +2 bonus to skill tests made with that skill. Or he may select two skills from the Science skill group and gain a +1 bonus on each of them.

But that was not really the problem, the great problem is to create the rules for the Bio-Engineered Super soldier.

What I know of the Angosian Bio-engineered Soldier is the following:
-During the Tharsian War the Angosians created Super Soldiers to help win the war. These soldiers went throw a series of Bio-chemical modifications and psychological reprogramming, to increase there chances for survival.
-After talking to the Angosian Deanna said the following: When a danger is perceived the program klicks in and takes over, Memory, Strength, Intelligence, Reflexes all become enhanced. He is conditioned to survive at any cost.
-After being attacked by Roga Denar Geordi La Forge said sommething like that:
That he incredible fast, and that he never has seen somebody move that fast.
-They seem to be very resistant against Phaser stuns.
-They have an incredible Tactical knowledge, even good enough to fool Data.
-And the most remarcable ability is that they don't have any Bio-signs, which makes them undetectable by Sensors or Hand Scanners.

So if there is somebody out there with the proper knowledge that has any idea on how to create these super soldier let me know.
(I think that most of the abilites can be simulated by taking Edges: Phaser Stun resistant = Thick Skull, Enhanced Memory = Edidic Memeory)

It is maybe a good idea to put them into the CODA Webzines "Beyound the Final Frontier" (hope you read it Gandalfof Borg), because I think a lot of people would like to see that.

I love 'kit-bashing' a new species: I've got 3 or 4 Coda/Trek racial ideas floating around in my head right now. (I think they make a pill for that now...maybe I should see my CMO...lol)

I would recomend looking at the Aliens book for Species abilities that could be refitted to work as Edges. I just opened my copy to the Jem'Hadar stats:
I think all their edges Could work (depending on how you wanted to build your Super soldier). I think Innate Fighting Instincts (+2 to Unarmed combat) and Early Battle Training (Armed Combat:simple and Ranged Combat:Energy both at level one as professional skills) seem really good places to start.

You might need to slap a bunch of flaws on this guy too: Arrogant or maybe even Bloodlust would be a good place to start, or you could use a modification of the Flaw from the Anticans, Irascible (when character feels threatened must make a Willpower test {TN 10} or attack challenger) would be a good flaw.

    I hope this helped.

When you get the write-up cleaned up (unless you like it the way it is), send it my way and I'll be happy to include it in a new issue

I love it to. But it is not always easy.
You right, the Aliens handbook is a good place to start looking for abilities.
I looked at the 2 species that where genetically enhanced:
Jem'hadar and the Suliban. I also looked at Anticans andsome other species.

This is what I've got so far:

    BIO-ENGENEERED SOLDIER ENHANCEMENTS
During the Tharsian War the Angosians created Super Soldiers to help win the war. These soldiers went throw a series of Bio-chemical modifications and psychological reprogramming, to increase there chances for survival.

    PREREQUISITES: Angosian Only.

TEMPLATE ADJUSTMENTS: +1 Strength, +1 Agility.

    ABILITIES:
Bonus Edge: Thick Skull: Bio-chemical modifications make the Angosian very hard to stun.
Bonus Edge: Trait Upgrade “Eidic Memory”: Not only Strength and Agility are enhanced, but Memory as well
Bonus Edge: Warwise: You are porgammed to be a mean fighting machine.
Danger Sense: Thanks to the reprogramming, they have learned to recognize subtime danger signals in the enviroment.
Suppressed Bio-Electric Emissions: You have no Bio-signs, which makes you very hard to detect you by means of Sensors. You can not be detected by Sensors or Hand Scanners
Template Flaw: Nightmares*: Their enhanced memory makes it hard to forget all of the atrocities they committed during the war.
Template Flaw: Arrogant: Their modifications and training makes it harder for them to fit in socially.

*Nightmares Flaw: Roll 1D6 each night and on a result of 1 you have had a nightmare. Because of the nightmare you have had trouble getting back to sleep.
You have only sleeped 1/2 of the time.

What do you think of it?
Or what can I change to make it better?

I seem to remember something about the Angosian Super-Soldier drugs in an ICON book, but don't quote me on that.

It looks pretty good imho, covers all the bases quite nicely.

I had a little idea that you could add to your Super-Soldier: what if he was the Version 2.0? and had other abilities that were never given to the orginal Angosian SS's? Or what if some enviromental factor (stasis, the ore in the mines etc.) has changed him some how?

I only toss that out because it would add to the confusion on your players parts. ("Captain, the data points to a little known program created by Angosians to create perfect warriors, but as far as the original Enterprise logs show, there was no evidence of psionic abilities.")

I'm sure there was something about the Angosian super soldier drugs in the ICON books. IIRC, it was in The Price of Freedom. Can't remember right now their stats, and I don't have my books at hand (I'm at work right now...)

I think they gave interesting bonuses and serious disadvantages (like gaining +2 in Strength and the Bloodlust flaw, or something like that).

Hey that's a good idea, never thought about that way. Thanks

Is it possible to look it up, in which ICON book you can find that info.
(and if it is possible to copy that info and mail it to me, becaus I dout that I will find any more books from ICON where I come from)

Gladly. I'll just ask you to wait for a few days, since I'm rather busy at the moment.
