    Post Enterprise-era Races

I've decided to dump CODA in favor of ICON as the system for my Enterprise-era Series reboot in February. I've always preferred ICON, and am more familliar and comfortable using this system than CODA, which I've never particularly liked (sorry guys).

Anyway, I was wondering what (if any) changes you'd make to the ICON racial templates for humans, Andorians, Tellarites and Vulcans. Regarding the Vulcans specifically, it seems unlikely - given the events detailed in Enterprise - that most of the race is trained in performing the fabled Mind Meld. Moreover, it seems like most of the Vulcans of the mid-22nd century are jerks, and I'm wondering if that would justify either (or both) the Arrogant or Intolerant Disadvantages.

I think that the rest of the Templates are probably okay, but the Vulcans are really presenting me with a bugaboo. Here's what I've come up with:

    Vulcan

    Attributes

    Fitness 2 [6]
    Strength +1
    Coordination 2 [5]
    Intellect 2 [6]
    Logic +1
    Presence 2 [5]
    Empathy -1
    Psi 1 [6]
    Range -1

    Skills

Any Science (choose Specialization) 2 (3)
    Culture (Vulcan) 2 (3)
    History (Vulcan) 1 (2)
    Language
    Vulcan 2
    Other (choose Language) 1
Unarmed Combat (Nerve Pinch) 2 (3)
    World Knowledge (Vulcan) 1 (2)

    Typical Advantages/Disadvantages

Curious +1, Eidetic Memory +3, Excellent Chemoreception +1; Arrogant -1, Code of Honor (Vulcan) -3, Hides Emotions -2

I've removed the Mind Meld Skill, added one Language, Eidetic Memory and Excellent Chemoreception Advantages, and the Arrogant Disadvantage, which I think are all in line with what we saw in Enterprise. Nevertheless, I'd appreciate any input from the ICON gurus still hereabout.

    Thanks guys.

    Yeah!!! Welcome back.

As for your Vulcan, looks real good. I'm not sure about the added language howevr, if it were me I'd make that a flexable skill: Science (Choose) 1[2], Engineering (Choose) 1[2], Language (Choose) 1, Religion/Theology (Vulcan) 1[2] (I think that came out of the PG, my group House Ruled it into a Culture Specialization), or Mind Meld 1 (some Vulcans do have that ability). I would stay with the Arrogant -1, again that's just me.

    Thanks, Phoenix.

Regarding the Skills, you're probably right. I just threw the extra Language in because most Vulcans encountered seemed fluent in multiple languages, but perhaps that's just my take.

I think that I'll incorporate your idea of a flexible Skill, as follows:

    Vulcan

    Attributes

    Fitness 2 [6]
    Strength +1
    Coordination 2 [5]
    Intellect 2 [6]
    Logic +1
    Presence 2 [5]
    Empathy -1
    Psi 1 [6]
    Range -1

    Skills

Any Science (choose Specialization) 2 (3)
    Culture (Vulcan) 2 (3)
    History (Vulcan) 1 (2)
    Language
    Vulcan 2
Unarmed Combat (Nerve Pinch) 2 (3)
    World Knowledge (Vulcan) 1 (2)

    Choose one of:
    • Any Engineering (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
    • Language (choose Language) 1
    • Mind Meld 1
    • Religion/Theology (Vulcan) 1 (2)
    • Any Science (choose Specialization) 1 (2)

    Typical Advantages/Disadvantages

Curious +1, Eidetic Memory +3, Excellent Chemoreception +1; Arrogant -1, Code of Honor (Vulcan) -3, Hides Emotions -2

I think that'll cover 22nd-century Vulcans prior to the recovery of Surak's katra, and perhaps for some time after.

I think I'll work out some Xindi statistics and post them here as well.

I have a question, although I doubt I will ever have an opertunity to play in this era . . . I am not a big fan of Enterprise, but in the show there are a multitude of races that not seen on TOS, TMP, or TNG/DS9/VOY eras. Therefore, where have they gone? Did any of them become extinct, if so, how?

And what of the interaction with the Ferengi?

JALU3: I'd assume that most (if not all) of the races encountered in Enterprise are still kicking in TNG/DS9/Voy (as well as TOS) times. There are a great many alien species that I'm sure simply don't appear on screen in the Series set in the future beyond Enterprise.

Think about it... there are alien species mentioned in TOS that are never seen again in later Series. Are they gone, too? Probably not. They just aren't important or interesting enough to mention again.

As for the Ferengi, I'm sure they'd be around (despite the continuity disruption they presence in the mid-22nd century causes). Remember, though, that they were never identified by species name in the Episode of Enterprise in which they appeared. Of course, it's not like Archer and his crew would try to learn more about them, but maybe the Ferengi of the 22nd century are more stealthy or evasive than in later centuries.

Besides, who cares if they appear on screen in later Series or films? Enterprise was created after those other shows, so it makes sense that they developed new Aliens of the Week rather than making every encounter be with aliens we've already seen. For their part, however, they did have Klingons, Romulans, Orions, Vulcans, Tellarites, Andorians, and so on. We all know them, right?
