Yeah 130 would be about good I think: It should be sufficient!

and yeah B5 in Trek era would be hideously crippled. B5 hyperspace technology is quite a bit faster than conventional 'warp drive' (unless Janeway is around with her transwarp of the week), but yes, they would be hideously crippled without a set of jump points, and I imagine it must take years of hesitant exploration to get those things in place! (and it's not exactly a light piece of equipment, a Jump gate!)

Tactically, B5 ships have a rough time... On the plus point it only takes one working jump engine to get their ships in there. On the downside, it's a huge strategic weakness, when your ships don't have shields! A Jump gate would be a gigantic target! And it has to be said there's nothing to stop Starfleet ships from following them in there haha (though they would have the same problems!). I am sure given 8 minutes of on-screen action someone will have figured out how to make their deflector array do the same thing hahaha.

With regards to placing jump drives within the context of treknobabble, it's basically just a deep subspace layer, and traveling in it is much the same as traverseing a transwarp conduit, only this would be a 'natural layer' rather than a tunneling conduit, something more akin to a subspace undercoridoor, or Mr. tash's null space catapult. The closest thing we've seen is Fluidic space (which species 8472 come from) which appears to function in a similar way, I.e. you can enter and exit it and it's smaller than our universe, so to speak, so you can travel much further by using it as a shortcut. Given the near infinite depths to subspace, it's quite possible the two technologies can mutually co-exist in the same universe

Few blurbs I’ve noticed on Jumping in the B5 Universe:

    1) Narn (at least) ships lose the ability to use most systems during hyperspace transition (From: Chasing Shadows?). Other ships may experience this effect as well, like re-entry black-outs.

    2) Babylon 5 station and the Minbari (maybe others) have been shown to be able to detect objects in very near hyperspace. Minbari/Whitestars have also detected objects in real-space from hyperspace, again at very close range.

    3) You can navigate off a beacon route (Third Space). Plus how would beings in the B5 Universe be able to explore at all given the navigation restrictions of needing a lot of beacons.

Keep in mind I haven’t seen all of the B5 episodes, so some of this may have been in script errors or once offs.

    1) this is probably partly due to the power drain, and partly due to the fact your sitting in the middle of a gigantic swirly energy vortex thingy, which is rippling with energy: it's going to make you pretty blind to most things!

    2) the beacon in and of it's self has a component which reaches through to hyperspace, so it's likely that either they can relay sensor data through it, or they have limited sensors which can do a similar thing. If the beacon is transmitting some form of Em radiation through into hyperspace, it can possibly do the reverse. That and they HAVE to be able to do that to a limited degree, else how would non-jump capable ships be able to activate the jump gate from hyperspace!

    3) They can probably get a very limited impression of what's out there.. because the gates and engines can presumably send and recieve limited EM transmitions. If the gate can receive EM comms from nearby ships, it probably has a handshaking protocol which gives them away ! With regards to navigating, it likewise can sense just enough to not jump inside solid objects or stars! By constantly jumping in and out of hyperspace you can likely work out where you are using conventional sensors. Most ships in B5 that were screwed were either non jump capable, or had a damaged jump drive, and they lost a close by beacon, so they just hoped as they drifted to find another one!

In regards to exploration, they did have exploration ships which conventionally travel the stars, taking years at a time, and establishing jump gates when necessary.

Another thing we might want to consider is the sheer size of their vessels, which would at times require almost strip mining smaller planets.

On the other topic . . . it's agreed then we shall pin the energy output of an Omega Class Destroyer's four fusion reactors will be 130.

Therefore this shall be the final version?

    *Alternate Timeline

    Description:
The Omega class Destroyer is a combination "Dreadnought/Aircraft carrier", capable of delivering maximum firepower combined with overwhelming fighter support and troop deployment. Measuring 1,714.3** meters in length, the Omega class Destroyer is one of the most powerful ship in the Earth Alliance Star-Navy today. Not only is it one of the most powerful ships, but this massive war vessel comprises the very heart and backbone of the modern Earthforce, space born military. The two forward hangar racks have sufficient capacity to carry up to 36 Starfuries of varying types.

[**Size verified by Tim Earls, CGI / Special Effects director for Babylon 5.]

Next someone should work on the starfurys
