Erm... yes a bit like Vessala, it's been a while since I looked over those rules!

I would have thought the point of honour was not about personal honour, but public perception: Everything we've seen in the show points to that! Yes personal honour is about the morals and ethics you are supposed to be upholding, and that requires no system, as it's all about roleplaying. Public honour is about others percieve you, how many warriors deeds you've done, how many battles of note you've won, which side you picked in a civil war and whether you shafted your own family in favour of doing the 'right thing' - these are the deeds which other Klingons would respect (or not) and therefore grant you any kind of social benefit.

For example, a 'scientist' may live by as high an ethical and moral code as any Klingon, because Klingons are SUPPOSED to do that, but unless he actually fought a battle, few would see his scientific accomplishments as worthy of great renown and honour.

On the flip side you could have one of the Duras Family who was a weasel and a toad, who backstabbed his way into influence and power, fabricaded all of the stories, and made anyone who had any evidence to the contrary 'dissapear'. He would have high 'honour' because Klingons percieve him as having such. And as soon as they realise it was all made up, he would loose all his honour and gain negative honour too, because he broke the Klingon code!

Yep, my thinking is along the same lines ... although I hadn't considered it from a personal/publicly perceived angle.
Glorious battle that eveyone knows about gains honor, being discovered to be a traitor leads to mega-loss/discommendation. Being sly & keeping it hidden leads to the perceived honor being impecible ...
I'm just kind of thinking about what the perks of the high honor would be, I would think that your house would be happy as you rise in honor so you would be elevated in house standing, rank, position in the house navy etc ... I guess that all could be enough and rather than receiving any DP just go with the WoD system where certain traits give renown modifiers ... so pretty much a copy of WoD's Glory system just geared to Klingons seems like an easy and adaptable way to go without it causing any game imbalance or becoming the be all and end all.

I happened to remember this thread while surfing today and came across an Honor Sytem on the UFC465537 website and they are using something that looks like it was cribbed from the "Imbalance of Power" scenario. The specific file is located, logically enough, in the Files section under the title "Klin Points.doc. The link to the Yahoo Group is: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/UFC465537/

Glad to help, but sadly it looks like the group is on the skids, it's getting spammed like crazy and members are starting to leave because of this. I am hoping the owner is just out of town or something and will clean things up when he can see what is happening.

It seems I don't have the ICON ebook anymore on my HD.

Sounds like the dreaded "Klingon Book" curse that's spread from LUG to CODA ... it's just not meant to be, even fan-made !

I waited for 2 sperate companies to release that book. Both had it "in the can" and i was denied twice. I know a fair number of people like the way of d'era but i would have killed for the klingon boxed set too have come out first.
There used to be a yahoo group for the klingon project with all the files on it and i don't ven have that anymore. It truely is cursed

    I hear ya !
I would have thought it'd be released way before some other stuff ... for either system.
It's probably worse knowing they're basically done for both systems too, but won't get released.

I think I actually came across the sourcebook you might have been talking about, if it's the one with the linguist that seemed to have killed it.
I like how the families and honor were done ! In fact I like a lot about the whole sourcebook, too bad it petered out before completion !

I actually was quite suprised to get on the Yahoo Group ... it shows no posts since Dec 2002 !
I waited for about 2 weeks then finally was accepted by the Moderator. And there all the stuff is that was being worked on for the sourcebook. The rough draft is a little over 1 mb.
All the character creation, houses, honor, ships & martial arts etc etc is all there in the files ...

Yes, I see you contributed a file or 12 !

I read some of the posts, as I remember seeing in an earlier sourcebook discussion thread that it seemed to be the KLI guy that killed it ... he does seem to be a bit pushy at times !!!

It was actually him that answered my post too, said that they probably should just close it down as there was a new trek rpg (assuming he's refering to CODA and doesn't know it's gone for a crap too).

So if'n you want the file I'd say try & get on while you can before they do decide to shut down ... failing that, if it wouldn't violate anyone's sensibilities I could always forward it on to anyone that wanted it.

It really has a good character creation along with honor & house creation etc etc ... I plan to use what I like and add some stuff (many more weapons as they only have listed the standard 4 Klingon ones from the game).

Like you say, it's not done and a lot of stuff needs some going over & point counts to make sure the packages are all good.
But it was nice to see write ups for a lot of the traits & martial arts etc that I recall seeing on Owen's Nomghar (sp?) character write ups on Memory Icon that I've been ultra curious about.
Psi skills like Stare of Krug & Battle Trace (menioned in the old PDF previews of LUG's B&H), the skill Mockery, martial arts & weapon styles and such.
