    Cool

Hey, it’s run out the NPCs night! Sounds like fun!

Captain Don Mappin (you can bust me down to Lt. Cmdr)
    Command (Commanding Officer)
Tags: I’m afraid to give any insight to my fragile emotional state.
    Quote: “Well…shit.”

NPCs/PCs from any number of games:

    Commander Thann Pentis (Male Betazoid)
Command (Executive Officer), former Operations Officer
Tags: You live for the moment, are impulsive, quick to action, and have a charming personality. You exude confidence and your fellow officers are quick to turn to you in a desperate situation for leadership. You never asked for the position you have been thrust into but find yourself always rising to the challenge. It’s hard being this good.
Quote: “There’s no point in living if you can’t feel alive.”
    "How you doin?"

    Lieutenant Cless Mora (Female Bajoran)
    Operations (Tactical)

    Quote: “Captain on the bridge!”

Lieutenant, j.g. Crisis Barth (Male Alpha Centaurian)
    Science (Chief Science Officer)
Tags: You’re the smartest person on board the ship and thankfully you know it. Unfortunately you have to keep pointing this fact out to the rest of the dimwits aboard. That’s okay; all the greatest minds in history had to put up with the incompetents around you. Starship life is so dull and boring it affords you exiting opportunities to work on your chaos theory on numbers, boosting the signal gain on the lateral sensor array 235% beyond listed specifications, and your personal hobby of nano-geneculture. It’s 2300 hours—I have this nagging feeling I’m supposed to be somewhere now…
Quote: “Realign the warp core? Sure, I finished that hours ago. Didn’t I tell you?”

    Lieutenant Peri Sernia (Female Betazoid)
    Science (Counselor/Medical Officer)
Tags: Life constantly challenges us and throws curve balls at us. It’s how we respond to these challenges that define us as individuals. Years of helping others deal with their problems sometimes makes it difficult to reconcile your own but in the grand scheme of things your problems seem so trivial. You enjoy helping others and when you do so you feel your own troubles go away. Intellectually some might consider this a passive transference but emotionally you know what you do helps everyone become a better person.
Quote: “Don’t think about it—just let it happen.”

Lieutenant Josephine “Jo Jo” Prel (Female Alpha Centaurian)
    Command (Conn Officer)
Tags: Everyone on the ship loves you! You’re everyone’s best friend. Every time you step on the bridge to head the watch you can notice everyone perk up with excitement! Sure, being a Starfleet officer is challenging but there’s no reason why we always have to be so serious. Off hours you’re the life of any party and have your pulse on the mood of the crew. Can’t we all just get along?
Quote: “Aye, aye, Captain, I’d be happy to plot that course!”

Lieutenant Commander Brandon Young (Male Human)
    Science (Chief Science Officer)
Tags: Joining Starfleet seemed like a good idea. Yes, it was. No really, it was. Alright, maybe it isn’t always cracked up to what you thought it would be. Being a scientist was a lot easier before your analysis had implications for the lives of everyone on board! You know your stuff and have strong confidence in your abilities but beyond your comfort zone it’s no-man’s-land. Like all good scientists you rely on empirical evidence, which means you’re not prone to following “hunches” or leaping to conclusions. People that don’t give science a chance are just asking for trouble.
    Quote: “I…um…don’t think that’s a good idea. Er, okay…I was wrong…sorta.”

Lieutenant, j.g. Rolo Nimm (Male Human)
    Operations (Communications Officer)
Tags: Language is the easiest thing in the world for you to understand. In fact, you can almost swear the ship is talking to you through the rhythmic hum and pitch of the deck plating between warp 5.2 and 5.3. No one else seems to notice it, though. Your uniform itches and your chair squeaks and someone once again turned on the red lighting and that annoying alarm. Guess it’s time to go to the bridge again. Hey, did you notice that the strobe of the red light is similar to the phosphorescence found on Julan 12? I’ll mention it to the captain the next time I see her!
Quote: “Look, there it is again!” (stabbing at blinking light on console)

Lieutenant Commander Antonio Vargas DeVega (Male Human)
    Operations (Chief Engineering Officer)
Tags: Discipline is required in the engineering branch to ensure the swift and competent running of all shipboard systems. Only by working together and carefully dispatching engineering teams can we remain in perfect operating capacity. Fortunately I possess the necessary skills and training to oversee this demanding role. While some may scoff at my methodology and necessity to delegate responsibilities, none can doubt that our ship functions beyond reproach. No doubt this is due to my pure heritage and natural leadership skills.

Hey Mr Mappin let me tell you:
    The Academy boxed set RULES!
I'm very lucky to have found one on the national bookstore surplus sale.

Don, I have also been using the Academy boxed set aspect/focus rules...

But the PBEM I run, its often not available to all players, so those poor souls are stuck with 5DP, players with the academy boxed set get a little more...

    Hi Don,

I'm phasing in use of the aspect/focus system in my campaign. Last week they just chose their aspect/focus. Next week I'll give them a chance to get the game mechanics... choosing advantages/disads that link with that. I didn't want them worrying about game mechanics when they chose their aspects.

Hmm... well, I've only had opportunity to play two charactters in LUGTrek:

    Lt. J.G. Michael Armendariz
    Human Rapid Response Field Medic

    and

    Lt. J.G. Dakin Rann
    Bajoran Security Officer

After reading Don's post, I had to pitch in some of my own.

    First, there's me:

Douglas Neil Burke (Probably no higher than Lieutenant in rank, Lt. Commander at a stretch)
Probably Ops, maybe Conn (Chief Ops Manager)
Tags: Hmmm. Friendly and sarcastic. Can be very profesisonal when required to, but likes to be as easy-going as possible. In a 24th-Century setting, I would likely spend a lot of off-duty time in the holodeck with friends, engagoing in that era's equivalent to RPGs.
Quote: "Are we having fun yet?"

    Now, for PCs and NPCs.

Commander Samuel James Kirk (Male Human)
Command (last official assignment was First Officer, USS Dauntless)
Tags: Thoughtful and friendly, especially with the ladies. Stick to the regs unless the regs prevent you from doing what you know is right. Try to live up to your great-great-great-uncle's reputation, but try not to live in his shadow. You are your own Kirk, after all.
Quote: "Inappropriate? I'm just talking two friends sharing a table while they eat, Cless." and "Obviously it's... Okay, maybe not so obviously."

Lt. Commander Senet (Male Klingon/Vulcan Hybrid)
Command (First Officer, USS Midway), former Tactical Officer
Tags: Fire and Ice. Rage and Logic. Do what you feel is right, but also what is honorable. Hide you remotions until they bubble out and someone gets hurt (and hope it's a bad guy). Logic may be he cement that holds your life together, so why do you take such pleasure in expressing your rage?
Quote: "Fascinating. Now I am forced to RIP YOUR THROAT OUT!"

    Lieutenant Mark Kelley (Male Human)
Operations (Senior Operations Manager, USS Blackthorne)
Tags: Calm and professional. Almost like it's a game. As the current holder of the Cestine Baseball League's record for Most Humeruns in a Season, you tend to think of things in baseball-ish terms. It seems to be working so far, because you have a great average.
Quote: "(muttered) Pinch hitter, huh? (louder) Captain! Ship decloaking off the starboard bow!"

Lt. Commander Angus MacKay (Human Male, surname pronounced mc-AYE)
Medical (Chief Medical Officer, USS Blackthorne)
Tags: What some people call "bedside manner", you call "coddling". What you call "bedside manner", some people call "cruel and inhuman punishment". As likely to say "Suck it up, lad!" as you are to show true concern, you are the terror of your ship. Even the captain avoids sickbay if he can help it. And that suits you just fine. Gives you time to study your medical journals and keep up with the new procedures.
Quote: "It's MacKay! With an A-Y! Can't ye bloody read?!??" and "Now hold still, this is gointa hurt like all hell. (SNAP!!) Oh quit yer whining! I warned ye, didn't I?"

I could come up with more, but that would require more effort than I'd like to expend right now...

    Lightbulb

    Lt. Re'k Danar (Male Xenexian)
Sec/Tac (security squad leader, ex-RRT squad leader)
Tags: Between growing up on Danteri-occupied Xenex, fighting in the Xenexian liberation, dealing with the son of a man you killed a decade ago, fending off a Romulan insurgence, and making enemies with the higher-ups in the RRT, it's been a hard life. The up side is that a generation of Xenexians, growing up on a world that hasn't known war since they were born, can read the news and see that there are two Xenexians out there doing great things in the universe. That's pretty much the only reason you stay in the fleet these days... when you saw the Romulan phaser lanced through Counsellor Serena Nobuyuki's chest, it killed off a huge part of you, too. You used to carry a sword at your side -- you could claim it had cultural significance, and what did the Federation know about Xenexian culture? -- but started to leave it in your quarters when you realized you really, really had to get those war-forged aggressive instincts under control.

Re'k was my PC for a campaign that ran for a year or so. In game, after Serena died, he got tied up in a mirror universe plot and stayed on the other side, but we can ignore that.

Lt.JG Nelson "Justy" Allan (Human male, 22)
    Engineering (isolinear computer specialist)
Tags: Congratulations, Ensign! You've just been promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade! Not that it really changes anything. You still have the same number of isolinear elements to maintain, the XO calls you just as often because he can't figure out how to open his email, and you get to spend just as much time watching your favorite Japanese animation. Actually, you have slightly less time... now you have an ODN specialist Ensign reporting to you, and those reports cut into your rec time a bit. But you don't mind. The Chief promised that next month you'd start training on maintaining the warp propulsion control system, and from there it's an easy hop to propulsion engineering ("REAL engineering," said the Chief), and eventually on to bigger and better things. Relax. Have a good time. Concentrate a little more on your martial art (kendo), spend a little more time socializing in the lounge, and above all... be "Justy" Allan.
Quote: "Um, Commander, try hitting the single big white button on your terminal."

"Justy" is, essentially, me. Except that I do paperwork in real life... nothing so exciting as fixing my boss' email.

Like Doug, after I finished reading Don's post, I had to slap some of my own up here, too.

    First...

    Lt. Malcom Mactavish

Likely Ops, but possibly Science (Computers)

Tags: Alternately hyperactive and sullen, Mactavish spends a great deal of his work time engaging in specific tasks that are more likely to meet his personal desires than those of his Department Head. Sure, he can do his work and finish his reports on time, but he is more likely to wait until the last minute. His reports are often rife with flowery prose, mildly obnoxious sarcasm, and the exact information necessary to make the report worth reading.

Quote: "The crew training manifest? No, I never got that..."

[That's more or less me in a nutshell. Heh.]

    Other characters include:

Captain Lydia Astor (Human Starfleet Captain)

Commanding officer of the U.S.S. Paladin.

Tags: As a middle-aged woman, I must admit that I can't imagine any other life than that of a Starfleet captain. The Paladin is a fine ship with an exceptional crew. I can't imagine having it any other way.

Quote: "Best speed to Betazed, Mr. Grahl."

Envoy General T'Mok (Betazoid raised by Vulcans)

Tags: Powerfully psionic, T'Mok spent his first several years as a Starfleet officer trapped in the Delta Quadrant with several graduating classmates. Upon his return to Federation space, T'Mok resigned his commission and returned to Vulcan to train as a diplomat.

Quote: "Your anger is totally illogical considering what you're thinking at the moment."

Lt. Cmdr. Vol Sanger (Alpha Centauran Chief Engineer)

Tags: Returning from the Delta Quadrant after being stranded there for over six years, Vol applied his "field studies" to his engineering practices and was quickly reassigned to the U.S.S. Paladin under Captain Cyril Dudikov. An exemplary officer and suberb engineer, Vol was quixckly reassigned to Chief Engineering Officer duties when the former chief was killed in action.

Quote: "You know, the Voth transwarp technologies could EASILY be adapted for use in this ship..."

Ensign Jal Kel'mar (Kazon Security Officer)

Tags: A Kazon goven, Kel'mar joined forces with a group of lost Starfleet Academy graduates and eventually returned with them to the Alpha Quadrant. Kel'mar spent several months at the Academy, and, thanks to his previous training and studies with his new-found friends, was placed aboard the U.S.S. Paladin for it's maiden voyage.

Quote: "Growing up on Turkana was rough? Try living constantly on the run from the Kazon."

    Unhappy Some NCOs for you...

    Greets!

I noticed there were all officers in the reply posts, and I thought I'd include some of our crewmembers to fill out your lower ranks.

Master Chief Boatswain's Mate Lem Marechall
    Command Master Chief
MCBM Marechall was a Engineering Watch Chief for the Warp Propulsion division, known as a fair but exacting taskmaster. The Master Chief could tell if the dilithium crystals were out of alignment by the vibrations of the deck in Main Engineering. Was promoted to Command Master Chief for his leadership, and serves as the senior enlisted advisor aboard ship.

    Sergeant William 'Wild Bill' Franklin
Shuttle Crew Chief, Rapid Response Team
Wild Bill is the Loadmaster and Crew Chief for the Invader, a refit Danube-class Runabout designed to deliver cargo and RRT members in an 'airborne' operation. Known for flamboyance, and habitually carrying a pair of Type II phasers in holsters he made himself while on deployment, Wild Bill has never lost cargo to enemy fire or air combat maneuvering.

Quartermaster's Mate Second Class Anthony Venatelli
    Helm
QM2 Venatelli was born and raised in New York City, Terra. He went to work at Utopia Planetia running orbital tugs for the Yard as a Merchant Marine, and joined Starfleet during the Dominion War. He was assigned to the USS Ark Angel (APA-74662) where he served as a relief helmsman. QM2 Venatelli has also been known to help out in the galley, since he feels the Trill commissary officer has no idea what 'authentic' Italian food should taste like.
    COL Jeffrey A. Webb
    342nd MSG "The Wolf Dragoons"
    USS Ark Angel

    Thumbs up Starfleet meets ME!

Odd that you should start this thread, because I actually created a character I'm using in DanG's game based on me

    Name: Pelori Maczar
Rank: Ensign (previously a programmer on his homeworld)
Species: Elaysian (you KNEW it was coming, didn't you? )
