Thread: If YOU could be a Starfleet Officer...

    Question If YOU could be a Starfleet Officer...

    One of the things I am doing for my campaign is writing up a complete list of my ship's crew. Anyway, since coming up with names is hard when tehre is 1,400 of them, I was wondering if everyone would like to be listed? Just list your real name, your rank (Lt Cmr. and lower please), your division (command, science, medical, etc.), and perhaps a few details about you. Other fictional NPC's welcome.

    THANKS!

    These are the characters my players created. Format is:

    rank name (department)
    gender race (aspect focus)
    analysis

    Aspect and focus are from the Starfleet Academy boxed set. The analysis is the official Starfleet comments for each character, written just after they graduated from the Academy.

    Ensign Beltana S'hatar (Medical)
    Female Betazoid/Vulcan (Inquisitive Humanist)
    Quiet and reserved, Ensign S'hatar is the team's resident doctor/emotionally unstable character. Torn apart by her Betazoid and Vulcan halves, Beltana bravely assumes a studious and calm facade in public. In private she spends a lot of time on the holodeck working out her frustrations.

    Lieutenant JG Clancy "Chris" Evans (Science)
    Male Human (Cautious Experimenter)
    Newly arrived Ensign Clancy Evans has already shown himself to be an open and friendly lad who wants to learn more about everyone and everything around him. A bit inflexible when following orders, he still has trouble adjusting to fast changing situations. Starfleet High Command believes that with some additional training, Evans can become a top notch first contact specialist.

    Lieutenant JG Gonar (Engineering)
    Male Tellarite (Crusty Experimenter)
    Always cranky, constantly complaining, never one to accept anything "as-is", Ensign Gonar is a methodical engineer who'd rather be out there fixing things when others would argue about a solution. Specializing in warp field engineering he is justly famous for his ability to create any sort of energy containment unit out of a bundle of wires, a few scraps of metal, spit and a heaping of elbow grease.

    Lieutenant JG John Theodore Kalhoun (Comand)
    Human Male (Crusty Rebel)
    Dashing, debonair, and a little erratic, Lieutenant Kalhoun leads with the kind of take-charge attitude that leaves his enemies fuming and his subordinates dumbfounded. A bit sullen and difficult when not in command, he nevertheless is quick to take initiative when given the chance, usually being able to anticipate the Captain's next command.

    Lieutenant JG Jon Cabote (Engineering/Intelligence)
    Male Ktarian (Tireless Scamp)
    Ensign Cabote is an incorrigible prankster. Although Starfleet Security knows of his "rain of donuts" in the Academy and for "fixing" the USS Discovery's transporters, Starfleet Intelligence has covered for him. Behind his roguish facade is a keen mind that can quickly analyze and disseminate a situation into its constituent parts.

    Lieutenant Krystal Evensong (Counselor)
    Female Betazoid (Romantic Explorer)
    Lieutenant Evensong is a hotheaded young counselor who is not averse to using her mental powers in any way she sees fit to use them. Impatient and impulsive, she also is remarkably friendly and open in first contact situations. Her disengaging smile and honey sweet voice have done more good than her companions' use of phasers and photon torpedos.

    Lieutenant JG Serin (Command)
    Male Vulcan (Cautious Leader)
    Lieutenant Serin fears that he cannot live up to his Vulcan ideals. The demands of Starship command weigh heavily on him and he has found it hard to reconcile his duties to Starfleet with his Vulcan ethics. In practice, this has made him hesitant when committing to a situation, a problem that Starfleet Command hopes he will resolve himself.

    Ensign Venor Pertham (Security)
    Male Betelgeusan (Cold Doer)
    Although he wanted to follow the ways of F'Ter and become an engineer, Starfleet Command realizes that Ensign Pertham has a natural aptitude for security. Bitter from being transferred out of his only interest, Pertham relishes taking out his anger on any Federation "enemies" that he happens to come across.

    Ensign Zeb (Engineering)
    Female Bolian (Cold Caretaker)
    Ensign Zeb has shown herself to be a team player who quietly contributes where she can. A bit too naive and trusting when dealing with new people, that is nevertheless the kind of attitude that Starfleet promotes in its men and women. Zeb is sometimes hesitant to contradict her commanding officers, something that they will have to keep in mind if they want to get the most out of the Ensign.

    I would be LT.JG.(at 30) Geoffrey Heald (which is pronounced "Healed" unless you want to attempt the gaelic, which is more like "hay-ldt"), Computer Systems Theoretical Engineer (I'm always better in theory) and a FONT of trivia.

    Elsewhere I have been LtCmdr. Shakaar Laan, Bajoran, Engineer and distant cousin to First Minister Shakaar Edon. Deply into arificial intelligence and corresponds with Data occasionaly.

    Also might be found as former Ens Alex Jeung, TWOK-era officer listed as MIA and inexplicable alive and well in the TNG setting as an independant trader, apparent age 50 but actual age apparently at least 300 (objects to direct questions about age as "nosy").

    Here's someone I'm using in my Academy series adventure tonight:

    Roderick Harlan
    Male Human
    Starfleet "Brat" early life
    Command Branch
    Advanced Tactical School training.

    Harlan is proud to be a member of Red Squadron. His relentless zeal for perfection has earned may mark him for quick promotion, but only if he can conceal his arrogant distain for those he feel do not "measure up."

    The reason for this is because of the example of his father, who was a respected Starfleet officer but was not often present in Rod's life. Then his father did not come back from a 10 year exploration mission, and Rod has been competing against his father's reputation ever since.

    Harlan would make an excellent rival for a PC. He has the Arrogant disadvantage, and a Contact with a militiant-leaning Starfleet captain on the front lines.

    Name: Aslan Collas
    Rank: Lt retired
    Branch: Formerly command/conn
    Current: Civilian services
    Notes: A former officer on board the USS Athena, Lt. Collas retired after the Dominion War, sighting work related stress as the cause for his retirement. Now he works as a bartender in the ship's lounge where he is always quick with a joke or to light up your smoke.

    Cool

    Lt. Cmdr. Robert Farquhar (not his real name), Ship's Librarian.
    (actually, I have Cmdr's pips, but since you specified LtCmdr or lower...)

    Human, 35, blue eyes, dark blonde hair, goatee. (Think Kenneth Branagh in "Much Ado About Nothing)
    Branch: Sciences (Library)

    Notes: Most of Farquhar's seventeen-year official Starfleet record is fictional. Although he appears to be a calm, quiet man in a dull job, Farquhar (who was then named Daniel Fairchild) was originally trained as a member of SI's deepest-cover covert operations unit, Team Shannon.

    There... have fun with that.. 'Conan the Librarian!'

    Name: Paul Elstob
    Species: Human
    Rank: Lt
    Position: Nurse
    Age: 28

    Paul is a quiet person who is one of those mad people who rush out into a phaser fight and keep the troops fighting, taking out a few Jem'hadar if need be. He always has his nose buried in the latest novel and has the eerie ability not to walk into people, doors etc when walking down the corridors of the ship.

    Species & Age: Human Male, 31 yo
    Department: Engineering (Comms and Computer specialist)

    A little clumsy, socially speaking, but generally a pleasant, easy-going person. Has a good sense of humour. Likes to laugh and goof around, but knows when to work, and works hard when there's work to be done. Pulls his own weight. Slightly intolerant of those who don't pull thier own weight. Dislikes weak leadership, but is not a good leader himself (and knows this fact within himself).

    Gosh. I gave a bit too much of myself away, there...

    LT Stephen Shepard - Operations

    Shepard is 26. He is descended from Alan Shepard of the old Mercury programme and has an interest in the history of space exploration. The Shepard family has been in Starfleet since 2161 and his uncle is an Admiral and his cousin is Captain of the USS Outreach (feel free to change this one). He was almost drummed out of the Academy for having a relationship with his instructor and only his uncle's influence saved his career from being flushed out the air-lock. He continues his relationship with Commander Vanessa Kusaka who is currently running a deep space listening post along the Tholian border.

    LT Larena Curron - Medical

    A unjoined Trill, Larena Curron has had a varied career in Starfleet. Trained as a medical officer she was recruited into a Starfleet Intelligence as an operative and has accomplished some dangerous missions. An accomplished actress she can assume almost any identity. She's also an accomplished computer hacker and hand-to-hand combatant. Oh yes, she's also a doctor.

    LTJG Keith Ramsay Clarke - Command

    A Command Specialist, Clarke spent the last six years as an exhcange officer with the KDF where he picked up a number of Klingon like habits and Klingon combat skills. He was adopted into the family of Commander Kargak the CO of the B'rel-class starship Ver'tal'l for his bravery during the Dominion War where he killed two Jem'Hadar warriors in hand-to-hand combat.

    Crewman 1st class Marc-André Gagné
    Operations, Technical Support.

    He's basically the guy who fixes the computer terminal in your quarters and installs software on your PADD. 23 years old, french canadian, short brown hair, goatee, one eye is blue/grey the other is brown. Always looking for crewmembers to play members of the Blues Brothers Band alonside his Elwood Blues on the holodeck. Rumored to be the person to talk to in order to get real alcohol and tobacco.

    This seems to be a good place to post my Quick And Easy Odd Name Generator(tm).
    Take the name of a famous or familar person. Spell it backwards. Try to pronounce it. If it works, use it. (Remember to assign it to an appropriate alien race.)
    The first names I did this with were:
    Lon Cheney --> Yenech Nol
    Peter Lorre --> Errol Retep (gee)
    Boris Karloff --> Ffolrak Sirob.
    From there, I did a string of other Borises to create a whole "Sirob Family". (This can easilly be done with other names, too.) That got me:
    Vonidoog Sirob --> Boris Goodinov
    Vonidab Sirob --> Boris Badinov
    Nistley Sirob --> Boris Yeltsin

    So, you can create a quick-and-dirty alien and name him Doowtsae Tnilc --> Clint Eastwood (okay, I'd rule "Tnilc" as unpronouncable. Try Senoj Lrae Semaj --> James Earl Jones. Could be an arab?)

    My brother insists that I include Thgirod Yeldud --> Dudley Doright

    OK; heres a couple.

    Lt. Commander Hauq Tranatas (Bajoran)
    Strategic Operations Officer
    A strict by the book, Tactical/Security guy, A long-time veteran of Starfleet, having been one of the few survivors of the USS Melbourne at Wolf 359, where he was the first ensign to recieve the Chris Pike medal of valour.
    Before Starfleet he was a member of the Bajoran resistance, but was captured and tortured by the Cardassians, after his rescue he was sent to Starfleet by Kai Opaka to follow the course of his Pagh.
    Heavily scarred, he wears the scars as a reminder of his hatred of the Cardassians, and he leaves his wife, a nurse on Bajor.

    NOTE: In the Mirror universe Colonal Hauq is the commander of Senator Dukats private flagship, and a close confidant. Without his facial scarring or the premature greying he is a womaniser and a cunning foe (and a regular visitor to Kiras bed ), having remained loyal to the Alliance even after Bajor swapped sides to the Rebellion.

    (The character was heavily interacting with Siskos past and the prophets...)

    Then theres;
    Lt (jg) Woy Lizanne (Bajoran/Cardassian)
    Operations/Communications Officer
    This eager young officer was an orphan abandoned in neutral territory, she never knew her mother, nor the Cardassian that raped her. Loathed by both Bajoran and Cardassian cultures.
    Growing up on the streets, salvation found her when she was taken in by a Starfleet captain who then bonded in a father/daughter relationship.
    Following in her adopted fathers footsteps, she remains with her sole remaining family, Starfleet, and intends to be one of the best damn officers possible, even if her shady childhood has given her an outlook and abilities to deal with the darker side of the frontier...
