Thread: The Romulans

  1. #121

    Post

I always placed Cardassian and Bajoran territory at about 10-11 oclock on the other side of the Federation, with Romulan space at approximatly 2 oclock-ish...

However, its a map question, so...

    Send out the SIRSIGnal!

Well the Way of D'era uses a large real world map as a basis.

Thus the sides of rommie space a like 2000 ly.

I tend to put Carddie space about parallal (2d) to Sol, spinward (to the left).

But thats using a large Fed, which Ds9 doesn't go well with.

In my maps, a direct line from the RNZ to Bajor would be approx. 400ly on a SW tangent.

I can provide links if needed

That would be handy, as I am not a mapmaker such as your self. You start talking x, y and z axis my head implodes.

Ok, I have saved the map this time, I think.

I just have a couple of questions.

    1) Why do you have the Romulans only in the Beta Quadrant...? The map with Way of D'era has a portion of the Empire in the Alpha as well.

    2) How did the Romulans and Breen meet when their is a large chunk of the Federation in between them?

    3) This is just a personal opinion...based on the show, but I always thought that the Cardie Union, the Bajor Sector and Benzar were closer to the RNZ. As I say this is a personal view (question) as how I precieved the info from the show, don't take it as critisim. The map is great.

Okay it depends on what map you looked at. As I said all a old with some partial ideas. Ie. Fed and carddies being so big etc..

    1) I think all my maps had some Romulan space in the Alpha quadrant.
Ah that one was so I could have some room to play with the Gorn and S'ona. Believe me all 'proper' maps have rommies in the AQ

    2) Again trying for some room to explain Fed space beyound all other stuff. Still the rommies and breen aren't that far apart, but your right. They need to be closer.

    3) I would have to agree with you. My very first maps had the whold carddie are turned right 90 degrees. So that Benzar indeed wasn't far from the RNZ. But alas more uptodate data changed that. I try to work off the maps from the DS9 TM. Using all the DW maps from the show (I have lots of printouts).

So all in all I agree with you but I am trying to use canon info plus real star data. And the fact that the DS9 DW eps work with a small Federation concept. Where as the Way of D'era map works from a large Federation concept.

Since in the end this is for a LUG product I'll have to reference the D'era map. But I may actually reduce it to a small fed scale. Although the creators of that map crammed as much distant real stellar objects into it as possible.

Which isn't so bad if I use the Chi factor (which I do now with a base modifier of 24 (hour/day)). But a large Fed would throw out my sector system and thus the whole DW maps.

Hmmmm I may need to think on this

Like I said I have very little training in tis field, but how does the Way of D'era map go on the "big Fed." idea? I mean it shows such a samll part of it. Or is it that the info that is show is too far apart for a "small Fed."?

    To all Romulan fans,

I'm currently involved in a forum based TNG LUG RPG. Some of the members and the GM have put the thought forward of expanding the game to include the other governments, including the Romulans. Now this expansion is conditional, enough people need to apply. I am posting this mainly for anyone else who is interested in playing a Romulan character, but you would not be limited to only that area. The Klingons, Cardassians any of the main races are fair game, maybe some of the smaller ones if you can think of a good reason, that is left to what the GM thinks.

If interested please post here and I will let the GM know about how many would like to join this project.

    Thank you.

Yes it shows a small part of the Federation.

But it references various real world stellar bodies. eg Vela Expanse, M23 etc.

It is from these points that I worked out and did a small map (I'll send ya the link) based off real starcharts that overlayed the D'era map.

From this, the D'era map is roughly 2000 odd light years to a side.

And thus use the large federation model, which DS9 doesn't support in the final seasons.

Phantom, Thank You, but I don't really have the time.

Sir Sig, Congrats on the promotion, and your basing you maps on something by B&B- their not the most canon following people.

I've sent that map to you. It should give some perspective on the rommies.

This one is for Sir Sig:

I checked out your starmaps and I like them, but I can't get them to print. How can I get an 8 1/2" X 11" version of them? That is, how can I get a version which will print onto regular copier paper?

We're not really at the recruiting stage for the forum games, just seeing who is interested. Not looking for everyday posts, most of us post once or twice a week. This could be really interesting and fun, so if interested let me know here.
