Perhaps those diplomats from Vulcan have too much exposure with the humans.

Remember, the "Cage" episode featuring Captain Pike and a very young, very emotional half-Vulcan Spock?

That's why I prefer isolationism. I mean what's next, T'Pol wearing a crop-top cotton t-shirt with the word "SEXY" across her chest?

    I thought it was... okay.

For the most part, I didn't feel it was that different from the Treks we have seen in recent past. Sure the humans are a little less... refined... and there are less aliens around, but the story structure, etc. seems pretty familiar.

It was the first episode... so I gotta give it more time. TNG didn't get good until midway through season 2 and Voyager... well...

The humans are pretty obnoxious... Not very likeable characters to me. While it was okay to see Cochrane, it was a little annoying that his speech was so... cute. You know how he said everything in the star trek intro...

Emotional Vulcan? Eh. Doesn't bother me. That the crew composition is kind of similar to the original star trek (human captain, vulcan first officer, human female comm officer) bleah.

The ship looked okay but it is still annoying that it is named Enterprise, that it is NX-01 and it looks so sleek.

    Hopefully it gets better.

Venkman! I saw it! I saw it! I saw it!

After finally watching the pilot I can now butt in with my own opinion on what has been claimed 'the end of Trek' by some.

To you I say: Give it a rest, alright?

The pilot was fun! It was a tad fluffy in places, and it lacked a character I could identify with. But at least the first half of it had a nice 'beginning of an era' feel to it.

    Things I liked:
    - the retro look, picking up all the small details you remember from TOS
    - that English bloke
    - the back to basics approach & the 'oops. we're in WAY over our heads here' atmosphere later on
    - the contamination gel scene, a remainder of how gratatious sex was an important element of TOS (ripped shirt & one-night stands with alien women? HELLO!... don't start telling me it was relevant to the story!)

    Things I disliked:
    - although I'm a fan of time-travel stories (VOY's not included), I felt a bit uneasy, that ENT might screw up the 'natural' order of events too much. Such as the 'desastrous' first contact with the Klingons, which turned out to be fairly easy-going here.
    - the scene where T'Pol helps Archer's crew find the trail to the Suliban ship, sounded like the foundation of 'technobablosis' to me, and I didn't like it one bit

Things I couldn't give a rat's ass about even if I were paid for it:- the Klingon homeworld is supposed to be where?
    - the NX-01 wasn't showcased in ST:TMP?
    - Ridges?
    - the theme song has lyrics? (Admittedly, it's a sappy song, I could do without... but who gives a shite?)
    - Starfleet.. Schmarfleet.

But in the end it's just a pilot. There is just too much exposition forced into those episodes, charactarization is forced at best (if there is any at all) and you have yet to warm up to the characters. It's impossible to be really good. But as far as pilots go, this one was alright.

...bloody naysayers. Find me one pilot episode that's better than this one and I'll find you a series that ran out of steam before you can say... Lois & Clark got married!
No power in the 'verse can stop me.

Two episodes in and here are my thought in no particular order:

Who cares if they change “cannon”? If I only wanted cannon material I’d watch TOS and TNG re-runs. New is good.

Temporal Cold War? Love it! I will say that they need to keep the frequency down to once every four episodes or so. Speaking of frequency I hope they keep the first contacts down to once every five weeks or so. It will keep them from becoming old hat and give them an excuse to keep any first contacts tense.

The look of the show is perfect. I like the fact that things look “realistic” rather than having that “forced futuristic look”. I hope they keep adding touches like when Archer almost gets in over his head by interfering with the mother who was weaning her child onto oxygen.

Yoshi needs to be sent home to cry. IMHO a ship with that small of a crew on mankind’s first exploratory voyage into the galaxy is no place for someone who whines about not wanting to be there.

Overall I really like this new series and will keep watching.

(Don't forget, I am recruiting players for a FTF ST:TNG RPG in Maryland)

    Romulans?

That was me! Yesss!!! At least once!!!

    The Vulcans are really Romulans?
Well, Star Trek Omnipedia dates the Romulan-Earth War around 2160. Perhaps it is already in progress and the Romulans are doing what they do best: pulling their strings in the background using the Tal Shiar?

What made me think that this "humanoid figure" is a Romulan was not the glimpse of an ear, but the voice. The intonations just said "Romulan" to me.

Erasing the whole series by stating it was only the effect of an intervention from the future?
    No. N - o .
I personnally think of most Voyager episodes just being a Trideo show for kids, but this would be crap.

    Q'onos to close to earth?
Come on, they NEVER got these speed and distance thing right!

    To sexy?
I agree, ST was always ... (1150 pm, tired and lacking vocabulary)

But: Did anyone see the Transvestite in the evacuation scene from "Farpoint"? A male crewman wearing a gold uniform in Uhura cut.
