History: Designed as an expansion of the Declaration Class, the Sealance was heavily reworked, in the quest to design a more advanced, Warp 6 version of the older Declaration, until the lead Engineer, a Carl Lex, accidentily dropped his model of the planned Sealance class on the floor, picking it up and suddenly imagining an "upside-down" version of the vessel. Submitting this new computer drawing, this eventually led to a more stabilised, and eventually more unified-design scheme vessel that would help shape future designs for several centuries.

The class was replaced fully by the Valley Forge, Katsulas and Copernicus Classes in 2260.
