John Byrne announced several weeks ago he's doing a one-shot book for IDW's Star Trek line. Today he released the cover sketch for the book.
And the finished in color:
For those anti-byrne people move on.

Say what you want about Byrne as a erson, he's a great artist. (And one of my favorites...)

*wistfully pines for the original Byrne run of Alpha Flight*

Personally, my first introduction to the man was the "Man of Steel" mini-series back in '86. Although my favorite Byrne work was the OMAC b&w mini years ago.Originally Posted by RaconteurX

when I was in line for an autograph instead of signing my autograph book (just a sprial notebook); he said that would not do and pull out an issue of Danger Unlimited and signed for free.Originally Posted by Doug Burke

My intro was Alpha Flight and perhaps X-Men as my brother subscribe to those series. The Fantastic Four was the first of his work that I owned.Originally Posted by Doug Burke

That's great news about Byrne doing a Star Trek book. Can't wait!
My introduction to Byrne was through the Uncanny X-Men. Then I saw his work in Alpha Flight, Superman & even Iron Fist if I recall correctly. I also liked his Next Men series.
I still fondly recall Byrne's thirty-five issue run on Uncanny X-Men, which was comics gold (the Dark Phoenix Saga!) even though he and collaborator Chris Claremont couldn't stand one another. Byrne's tenure on Alpha Flight was a mere twenty-eight issues, but that remains one of my all-time favorite series.Originally Posted by Doug Burke

I first read his stuff in X-Men, later on Fantastic Four.

There's some nice artwork in there, and I have no opinion one way or another 'cause I have no idea of the context of who these people are LOL. Kinda reminds me of some of the artwork in the ICON books.

...Um..Romulans....Balance of Terror...I know Byrne admits he doesn't do likenesses very well but hopefully you know who at least two of the people are.

Byrne will be doing another Trek book, no information so far what it is, though hints that have been dropped it might be what happened after Amok Time or Assignment Earth.
