Creating a TOS Style Yeoman (CODA)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how you might go about creating a TOS style Yeoman?

I'm thinking she should be built as per the optional rule for enlisted/Non-commissioned personnel in the Player's Guide.

    Any thoughts?

I'd go for the Counselor or Command template, with the Representative, Manager or Ship's Counselor backrounds. Rand, at least, comes off as the Captain's secretary.

I'm not sure I'd preserve a com-noncom divide in power in player characters.

I use the enlisted personnel rules I created myself. They can be found in (IIRC), BFF #2.

    Doug,

I apprciate the response. However... I have no idea where that would be that you're talking about.

Beyond the FInal Frontier. A fanzine made up from folks here on the board. You want issue #2 for Doug's article which is found here : http://www.geocities.com/gandalfofbo...ines.html#BTFF

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, IceGiant. As you might guess, I'm still new to the Trek RPG. I've always wanted to check it out, but am just now finally getting around to it.

    I have a question regarding Doug's article...

Although the article does not state, I'm assuming Enlisted personnel do NOT gain a free Edge at character creation. Is this correct?

I also have another question, which is something I'm unclear on.

Let's use Janice Rand as an example: Suppose she started out as Enlisted, but later underwent the necessary training to become an officer - in game terms, how does this work? Would the character simply take on the Starship Officer profession and thus gain Starship Duty (and an elite profession for free)? Or would she need to take one of the elite professions as part of her standard Enlisted profession?

    Thanks!

That's incorrect. They still have the same entitlement to Edges & Flaws any other character does. The only things they don't get are Professional Abilities and Courage Points.

Yes, she would take Starship Officer along with the attendant Elite Profession.
