Still desperately hope this thing doesn't turn out to be the recast that we've all been told to expect, but I am going to leap to the defence of Pegg being cast in a serious role.

Comedic actors make the jump all the time, even in Star Trek. Remember Christoper Lloyd as the Klingon Commander in Star Trek III? When I see him in Star Trek III, I never think of Doc Brown from Back to the Future. Part of that, I grant, is the make-up... but still.

    Well done, Crow.

By the way, what's the name of the actor you put next to Kirk? (I'm afraid I don't know the face of either of the latest actors rumored for the role.)
    Davy Jones

The thing that I like most about Crow's pic is that I honestly don't know most of the guys (by name, if at all), so I had to google each time a new name came up.

    This way it's much simpler

    I am deleting this post . . . as I over reacted.
I am deeply concern regarding their choices of casting, and even more so on their choices to return to the past, insteading of moving forward.
Please accept my apologies, and note my concern.
    Thank you.

    Okay, they are as follows:

Chris Pine as Kirk - not officially confirmed yet but according to someone's blog (someone who knows him personally) he's decided to go for it instead of doing the George Cloony film.

Karl Urban as McCoy (Faramir in Lord of the Rings) - Again, currently only 'in talks' but strongly expected to be cast.

Zack Quinto as Spock (Sylar in Heroes) - Confirmed

Zoe Saldana as Uhura - Confirmed

Anton Yelchin as Checkov - Confirmed

John Cho as Sulu - Confirmed

Simon Pegg as Scotty - Confirmed

Really? I never would have seen that without the long hair and stuff. And I kinda like the Faramir character ;-)

Anyway I think that the visual similarities between the original cast and the re-cast is quite impressive. How close are the new voices?

And I still think that Paul McGillion would have made a great young Scotty

Chris Pine has won the role of Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek movie, according to a post by director Joe Carnahan on his official blog.

Just to stave off any confusion with the actor's credits - Urban played Eomer, not Faramir in The Lord of the Rings.

Ahh - showing up my TLOTR ignorance there I knew he played a long-haired bloke with a sword. Faramir was the first name that sprang to mind.
