    Post Quick Contest!

I want to have an icon trademark for CG&D. Last Unicorn had a profile of a
Unicorn ... SJ Games has the eye-in-the-pyramid ... West End had the
stylized "W" with a star imposed through it ... Iron Crown had a (you
guessed it) iron crown ... Hero Games has that guy spreadeagled across a hex
... more companies than I can name have some version of their initials.

I've been pondering this for a year now, and while I have a few ideas that
might work, none of them scream out YES! THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT! to me.

    So, a quick weekend contest

Email me an idea for a Cumberland Games & Diversions iconic trademark. Do
not send graphics files (or any other attachments); just a plain text
description. I'll get the artwork (or create it) on my own ... I'm just
looking for concepts. Send one description per email. You can submit as many
as you like, but put each in a separate mail. Any submissions that violate
these rules (that includes HTML email!) may be disqualified.

The winner will get a free copy of everything CG&D currently publishes.

The 2nd place winner will get a free copy of one thing of their choice that
    CG&D currently publishes.

Three runners-up will get free copies of Hexpaper and Flagstones. If the
runners-up are already registered users of both Hexpaper and Flagstones,
they get a free copy of one thing of their choice that CD&D currently
    publishes.

Even if I don't use any of the ideas, I'll still consider them all and pick
    winnners!

The deadline is 10PM, Sunday the 11th, Central Standard Time.

    Help!

What an interesting bunch of responses! Nearly two dozen, all told, most falling into a couple of major categories (Food Motif, visual references to things called "Cumberland," Computer Motif, Dice Motif, Stuff with Hexagons). Some of the most interesting combined the themes in unexpected ways: I know of plenty of places and people named "Cumberland," but I had no clue about cumberland _sausages_ (the sausage entry combined "Cumberland," food, AND the dice motif), which means it's time for Sjohn to become more well-read on food in the U.K., I suppose! After a quick websearch, I learned that 100% authentic Cumberland sausage is no longer available (since the Old Cumberland Pig is now extinct), which means I can't even sample any! <sob> I found a recipe for making an approximation of it, though:

For what it's worth, the "sausage" icon idea didn't even place in the top five, but it sure got me reading ...

I still have no idea what image I'll go with, but after some deliberation, picking the five favorites was definitely possible. Putting them in _order_ was almost undoable, but here goes:

    First Place: John G. Wood
    Second Place: John Crimmins
    Third Place: Brian L. Bird
    Fourth Place: Cybersavant
    Fifth Place: Jason Wallace

I'll be emailing the winners separately to arrange delivery of prizes and so on. Many thanks to all of you who took the time to participate!

Aw crap! My "Cummerbund" logo idea didn't win! The voting was rigged, I say. I demand a recount!

Or, at least, a "Cheesiest Entry" nomination!

Well, if you take the Cumberland (SJohn) to the County Court, then to the High Court when you don't like the County Court's decision, then to the Supreme Court when you don't like the High Court's ruling...you might get somewhere.

Well, you know I would have deferred the swag to a more worthy soul...

It's the glory I tells ya' ... The GLORY! Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

    I do like being a Fire-Eater though. That's cool!
