I'm sure the designers didn't mean for it to be used in one of Q's funky demi-real mind games, either, but there it is.

I'm pretty sure the super-1701-D was a opening a crack in the fourth wall to give the 'Starfleet dreadnought' idea a bit of ribbing. Of course it's ludicrous and doesn't make sense. It's Q!

There's a lot of things, that 30 years ago wouldn't make sense, if someone from that time were to have stayed asleep and woken up today. That's not saying that that future couldn't happen . . . there are infinite possible outcomes . . . with infinite possible quantum universes being developed from those outcomes.

    Remember that Worf Episode.

And in my game, it's trying to happen. I'm going to have a timeship from the AGT future realise that they're going to be eliminated (somehow, chrono-quantum waves or something,) and have them set about trying to bring it to pass thru manipulation of politics in the present. I plan on making it my "season arc" as I have the group I assembled go around seeking out lost starships.

And the 1st step they inacted was to have the new stradrive section for the Enterprise D built and the saucer re-comissioned with the noted modifications.

It really doesn't fit with Trek anymore, I admit, but I looove it. And the reveal of it was awesome last game.
