    Angry Exoanatomy

    Help wanted
My narrator the DS9 RPG and one of the players has chosen the medical skill Exoanatomy.
My question is this. Does it mean diagnosis of aliens etc.
    Any help is appreciated.

Exoanatomy would be the study of the structure of alien beings - how their skeletal systems are designed, how their organs are placed, etc. I'd allow a fair amount of exophysiology thrown in as well (the study of the function of those organs), since a thorough understanding of anatomy requires more than passing familiarity with what the anatomy does.

Some level of skill with exoanatomy/exophysiology would be an absolute requirement to medically treat alien species as well.

My take is that Exoanatomy would be a variation on Exobiology - same general area, different focus.

Where Exobiology is (basically) the study of alien life-forms and how they function, Exoanatomy would be the study of organ placements in alien life-forms...but I'd think that Exoanatomy would be a brand-new skill, with specific racial specialisations, rather than a specialisation of Medical Sciences...

This is a game question, and really ought to be over in Questions & Mechanics or the Narrator's Ready Room...

IMNSHO, the Exobiology/anatomy/et cetera... deal not with aliens, but with unknown aliens, or for ones about which the physician has. A Federation doctor would not use Exoanatomy to find a Vulcan's heart, he (or she) would have that info in the ship's database. 12 years ago, he would have used this skill in diagnosing a Ferengi, but the Ferengi are now a know quantity.
