Hello? Could you please shift this totally off-topic discussion to an appropriate area? I don't think this thread is the right place to perform politcial or economical debates. Thanks

    Hey Owen,

Take it easy, and I hope you get well soon! That combo can't be fun...

I know I have been of the net for a while, but Owen, I hope you do get better. I can sympathise with what you are going through . . . and I know it's a tough road ahead of you . . . but you're already done with the tough part . . . what you have to do is work towards your recovery so you can have many more nights of great roleplaying, and everything else that life allows you to enjoy from her until whenever the inevitable occurs.
Listen to the Seargent over there . . . recover is possible, and you can live a healthy and more fulfilling life in the end.

I am getting better, though I'm not likely te regain full use of my legs - not quickly anyway... today my biggest problem is my nurse - who does no believe someone should be allowed to sleep in on Sunday. One of the main problems is the nature of my stroke - i actually had three; two in the frontal lobe 9one on the left and one on the right) and one in the prefrontal cortex. This mens tah my knowledge is not impaired - I still scored above the 90th %ile, but my thinking has been slowed don and my math skills are somewhat impaired. And, of couse there is weakness and spasms in the legs. I'm usually in a wheelchair, which is a drag, or in a walker for short stints. I can't handle stairs - it's a real bitch. One thing that has saved my sanity is that there is a (limited) access to the Web (thanks, guys!)

    Hi Owen.

It's god to see that our small community can do at least something by cheering you up a abit every now and then.

What you say about your condition sounds hard, but hang in there. A lot of people have beaten the odds by sheer strength of will and won back the ability to walk on their feet. And you have always seemed to me like a headstrong person!

I grant you I haven't been there myself, but I wish you all the best and send good thoughts your way.

We shall be here and offer whatever assitance and relieve we may can.

So, being the foremost LUG Trek gamer here: What are the odds of you going into a new edition of a Trek RPG, now that the license may be handed out to an other company?

Hey if we can do anything to assist in your recovery, just let us know . . . and even if that's some online RPG time . . . we'll see if we can cobble something up.

Say a hells run towards a major target or something. A good toss and brawl. That always cheers people up . . . nothing like getting pumped up after a massive hard fought victory.

Or we can go the other way and go for the long storied drama type one-shot games.

See what happens? We all go our separate ways and one of our venerable brothers, a man who has been here since the first days, takes a fall.

Owen, you are without doubt one of my very favorite people here at TrekRPG. You've always been insightful in your commentary, open with praise, and quick to help put out the various fires that have burned here over the years.

I certainly hope that your recovery is a swift one. I hate when I have the sniffles. Heart attack, strokes, pneumonia... I can't even imagine.

In any case - though I am hundreds of miles away - if there is anything that I can do (other than send well-wishes and happy thoughts) to help in your rehabilitation, please let me know.

Well, I'm in a new hospital, and making good progress despite only doing physio 3 times a week instead of 9, but I'm ticked off that my permission to take shopping trips didn't carry over. I was all set to go out tonight, only to stopped by a nurse who said I have to have authorisation from my doctor. Luckily, my friend agreed to pick up the two DVDs I wanted, but I really wanted to go out! I hate not being independant!

In time you will get your independence back, and you will appretiate it that much more.

    Owen,
Sorry that I'm just now discovering your trials of the latter half of 2007. I haven't really been around the board much. Searched your name tonight and discovered this thread. Wow! Man, you have not only been through a lot, but you are an impressive fighter. Cheers to your intrepidity!

Both of my parents have been through the open-heart path. Attitude is the #1 key to recovery. You definitely have that fighting spirit. I'll be praying for you and checking in here regularly to see how you're progressing.

    God Bless You!
