A Commander is someone who with just a little "tweaking" would be able to command a ship, and in some cases a Lt. Commander could too.

hehe . . . duh . . . I know that. But I'm asking about on the boards. Would those ranks come in later on in this board . . . and what would their purpose be?

No, no more ranks will be introduced. The software has only 4 levels of membership. The defaults are Junior Member, Member, Moderator and Administrator. The names can be changed, but not the number of levels. Don has chosen to use the Starfleet ranks of Ensign, Lieutenant, Captain and Admiral as a bit of Trekkish window-dressing, but that's really all it is - a little bit of chrome plating. The software isn't customisable beyond that point.
