TV/Movies: B5 (I do greatly dislike Season 1, but I did like a lot of Season 5). I liked Crusade, and eagerly await the Rangers series. Andromeda has a lot of potential as well though whether or not it realizes that potential remains to be seen.

Books: Asimov was the greatest, for me. As for writers still producing books, I liked Peter Hamilton's Neutronium Alchemist and related books, though I was a bit disappointed with the ending. Great super-tech.

Babylon 5 -- hands down, for me, the best sci-fi show to date. Also was really enjoying Crusade.

John Varley's Titan series -- great fun. Can't stand his other stuff, strangely.

    Hardwired, by Walter J Williams.

Pretty much anything by Bruce Sterling.

Isn't it weird how the mind works?

I sat here at my computer reading everyone's posts and then in the back of my brin a voice said "The Vandarian Incident". I went to google and did a search and found the author of the book, who has re-named it "The Day The Sky Exploded"

So there ya go, my favorite non-Trek sci-fi book!

Wow all the stuff I have read or watched over the years. Man I have even endured wannabe B sci-fi movies.
So for the media category, Definetly Quantum Leap.(I would have picked ST but that was too damn obvious

For the Movie category, envelope please,(sound of a quiet drum roll) Alien.

And for the books, (rustling in the new envelope), it appears to be a tie. Any of Heinleins pre 70's work of fiction, and the Sten series by Chris Bunch and his buddy Cole.

(sound of a drum crashing through a window)

Ok, who unchained that monkey. (wanders off forum)

Books - Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion are the best Sci-Fi I've ever read. For a great bad guy you just can't beat the Shrike!

Bolo. Hammer's Slammers. Starship Troopers (NOT THE MOVIE!). World in the Balance by Turtledove. Startide Rising.

Movies: Pitch Black was surprisingly good. Loved the Predator movies (and hope they someday do the proposed Alien Vs Predator movie!)

Games: the Star Control series was as fun and as interesting as any 'serious' novel.

    Cool

I really like the Weird Science and Weird Science/Fantasy comics, reprints from the 50s and 60s. Those are some of the best comics ever.

    Let's see...

Movies: The Star Wars series (yes, including Phantom Menace!!)
    .
    .
    Several orders of magnitude...
    .
    .
Alien, Aliens, Pitch Black, Stargate, 2001, Contact, The Abyss...

TV: Babylon 5 (except for most of Season 5), Stargate SG-1 (love that show! )...ummm...I've just realised how much of my TV sci-fi viewing is Trek!!
    Would X-Files count as sci-fi?
I've only seen one episode of Farscape so far, and it was pretty bad, but I have to see some more to make a better decision (after all, if I'd just seen TNG's "Justice" I'd have never watched Next Gen either!).

Books: Anything by Arthur C. Clarke (esp. the 2001 series), haven't read much Asimov, but I loved "Nemesis". "Contact" (Carl Sagan), just about anything by Alan Dean Foster.

I'm not a fan of many Sci-fi TV shows (Trek aside), but I'd have to pick Red Dwarf and Doctor Who as two of the best.

Movies favs include Alien, Star Wars, Hardware, Total Recall, and 2001.

Book favs are Childhood's End (Clarke), Solaris (Lem), Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Dick), and Heroes and Villains (Carter).

Well, Kaiddin since you rattled off two of Charlton Heston's films why not Planet of the Apes. The original wasn't bad. Looking forward to the up coming re-make.

    In no particular order...

TV: Farscape, B5, The Twilight Zone (to this day the finest written TV series EVER produced), Buffy (maybe not SF, but WHO CARES! After the episode "The Body", I'd have to say that this has turned into one of the best TV shows ever!), The Secret Adv. of Jules Verne (I'm a big Victoriana buff), Futurama.

Movies: Star Wars, 2001, Blade Runner (Probably the best SF film, narrowly beating 2001), Planet of the Apes, Alien(s), X-men, and of course, Forbidden Planet (it's just cool).

Literary: Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, Bradbury, Card, Baxter, and Spider Robinson (if you've never read his "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon" stories, run out and get them NOW!).

    Hugh
