was looking around my computer today and came upon a host of stuff I have come up with for Ground forces, I think at the time I was thinging about a Ground force web site but that has long sinced passed. alot of this is from all over ICON books and some of it has been twiked (I Think) hope it will be appriciated.
I think the notes are kinda neat
Type III Phaser Rifle
Introduced: 2264 (Withdrawn 2369)
Targeting: -1 (+1 difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 – 16
Damage: -10 (To all damage results)
Range: 5/ 40/ 320/ 2,880m
Size: 55 cm long
Mass: 1.1 kg
Energy: 1,500 charges (Self-contained battery)
Also Used By: Bajor and Feringi Notes:
Ugly and ineffective was the kindest words to say about the first phaser rifle to enter Starfleet service in over 60 years. Its poor targeting, poor hitting power, inability to reload in a firefight, and general poor layout insured that it would be quickly disposed of by Starfleet. Nevertheless, bureaucratic infighting slowed the process of development of a replacement and the strength of the then controlling “peace party” in both the Federation council and Starfleet administration lengthen it’s the Type III’s life past the point where it should have been removed from service.
The Original Type III was still found aboard Merchant Marine vessels and in some low rate militia and planetary defense forces during the Dominion war. It was also a fairly common arm of the Betazed and Bolian resistance forces.
Type IIIA Phaser Rifle
Introduced: 2369
Targeting: 1 (-1 Difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 – 16
Damage: Varies by power setting
Range: 5/ 45/ 405/3,645m
Size: 85 cm long
Mass: 3.45 kg
Energy: 1,500 charges (reloadable)
Also Used By: Klingon Self Defense Forces and Imperial Klingon States Notes:
With progress slow on a replacement, it was only a matter of time before enterprising Starfleet Security ordnance officers and technicians started to work on one of there own. Many early efforts produced half decent results and word and communication spread on various “backyard efforts” the individuals involved began to bounce ideas and design off of one another by 2368 a new design had emerged and when submitted to Starfleet R&D it was taken under advisement and after a shot testing period approved for service. To date this is the only example of a field design being accepted into Starfleet service.
Type IIIB Phaser Rifle(Compression)
Introduced: 2372
Targeting: 1 (-1 Difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 – 18
Damage: Varies by power settings
Range: 5/ 50/ 500/ 5,000m
Size: 73 cm long
Mass: 3.95 kg
Energy: 3,000 charges
Also Used By: Federation Only (A major lend-lease agreement with the Romulans was in the process at the end of the war and was soon canceled.) Notes:
While the Type IIIA entered service Starfleet engineers at Ground Force R&D continued to work on the new design eventually working in new phase compression technology allowing higher (anti-vehicle) power settings. The shortly introduced Type IIIB was popular for its compression setting which proved somewhat effective against Borg Drones it was disliked for its bulky nature and long length which are considered a severe hindrance in the close quarters fighting of Starships and Starbases.
Type IIIC Phaser Rifle (Compression)
Introduced: 2373
Targeting: 1 (-1 to Difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1-18
Damage: +2 (add to damage for all shots)
Range: 5/ 50/ 500/ 5000m
Size: 62 cm long
Mass: 2.5 kg
Energy: 4,500 Charges Notes:
The Type IIIC was a refinement of the previous B model and became the standard rifle for the Dominion War among Federation ground troops, the main difference from the Type IIIB being in size, mass and hitting power. The Type IIIC was also used by Starfleet Starbase Personnel, Rapid Response Teams, and Rangers. Since the end of the Dominion War the Type IIIC has remained in service with the ground forces but has largely been replaced in Starfleet Security duty by the Type IIID Carbine.
Type IIID Phaser Carbine
Introduced: 2374
Targeting: -1 (+1 to Difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1- 16
Damage: +4 (add to damage result)
Range: 5/ 45/ 85/ 160m
Size: 40.64
Mass: 1.25 kg
Energy: 1,500 charges Notes:
With the total failure of the original Type III phaser rifle, Starfleet Security was left without an effective long arm which could be used in the confines of starships and bases. The Type IIIA was used by Starfleet Security between 2370 and 2374 until the new Type IIID “Carbine” was introduced. Small, compact, and light weight, it was an instant hit with all of Starfleet Security and it quickly became quite popular among ground forces as well during the Dominion War. However its uncontrolled aiming and low amount of energy was a slight hold back from its total acceptance.
Isomagnetic Disintegrator
Introduced: 2267
Targeting: -2 (+2 difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 – 6
Damage: see table
Range: 5/ 50/ 105/145m
Size: 128 cm long
Mass: 3.85 kg
Energy: 4, 000 charges (Self-contained battery, non re-loadable)
Also Used By: Federation only Notes:
When first introduced the Isomagnetic disintegrator was designed to be the primary light bunker busting/ Light Anti-vehicular weapon to be used by S.F.G.F infantry at the squad level. Though initially well received it was soon found to have several serious flaws including poor range when compared to other personnel weapons and poor targeting. However it was considered effective enough and liked enough by the troops that it remained in use throughout the Dominion War.
Tetryon Pulse Launcher
Introduced: 2371, b version 2374
Targeting: n/a
Settings: 10 – 18
Damage: See table
Range: a version: 5/60/115/175m
b version 10/120/230/350m
Size: 135cm long
Mass: 3.1 kg
Energy: 4,000 (re-loadable)
Also Used By: Federation Only Notes:
The Cardassian war had showed that small groups of Ground forces had been easily overcome mainly due to a lack of an effective anti vehicle weapon which could defend from both ground and air attack. One of the primary mission of the Personnel Weapon Initiative was the design of an effective company level anti vehicle weapon. The result was the Tetryon Pulse launcher which was it self an outgrowth of the development process leading to the Type IIIB Phaser Rifle (Compression). Though the first version was considered under ranged the newer b version introduced in 2374 made up for it. The weapon proved superb during the Dominion War and is credited with stopping many Dominion armor attacks alone in the war’s closing days.
Light Mortar
Introduced: 2342
Targeting: 1 (+1 to all difficulty test)
Damage: See Rounds
Range: (25) 400/ 800/ 1,600/ 3,200m
Size: Barrel length 40 cm and 8 cm in diameter, with tripod base
Mass: 7.9 kg for mortar, 2.7 kg for round
Duration: Standard ammo carried per squad is 20 rounds
Crew: 2 (gunner and loader)
Skill: Heavy Weapons (Mortar) 1(2)
Also Used By: Bajor, Feringi and Klingon Empire Notes:
Starfleet reintroduced a small platoon/company level light mortar just prior to the outbreak of the Cardassian war as a ground alternative to deploying the photon mortar. The weapon more than proved itself in the war to follow and continued in service right into the Dominion War. The weapon breaks down into two easy to carry pieces (barrel & base) and each member of the 5 man mortar section carries 4 rounds apiece. At the platoon level prior to the Dominion War the ultritium mortar was replaced by the more powerful (if under range) but easy to carry Tetryon Pulse Launcher.
Heavy “Photon” Mortar
Introduced: 2347
Targeting: n /a
Damage: See Rounds
Range: (50)1200/2400/6,000
Size: 60cm long, 12cm in diameter, with tripod base
Mass: 10.2 kg for mortar, 3.7 kg for round
Duration: Normally supplied with 20 rounds in the field
Crew: 5 (commander, gunner, spotter, loader and porter)
Skill: Heavy Weapon (Mortar) 1(2)
Also Used by: Bajor Notes:
The standard photon mortar has been in Starfleet service for over one hundred years and continues on as the main heavy indirect support weapon of the ground forces. The newest model introduced in 2347 is the lightest and most easy to use with the ability to breakdown into three very portable components (base, barrel, & targeting system).
Mounted Phaser
Introduced: 2339 (withdrawn 2369)
Targeting: -2 (+2 Difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 - 16
Damage: -15 (To all damage results)
Range: 10/ 260/ 520/ 3,880m
Size: 154 cm long;
Mass: 14.5 Kg
Duration: 8, 000 charges(Self-contained battery, non-reloadable)
Crew: 2 or 3
Skill: Heavy Weapon (Mounted Phaser) 1(2)
Also Used by: Bajor, Klingon Empire Notes:
The standard mounted phaser had been the replacement for the much older Mk IV support phaser which had been in one form or another in service with Starfleet since the Four Years War. However the weapon had many problems the least of which was the fact it took more then one individual to set it up and fire it. It saw service in the Cardassian war but was never popular with the troops who used it and Starfleet began to develop a new replacement along with other up to date side arms in the early 2340’s.
During the Dominion War the weapon was still in use with some Planetary Defense Force units and militia, but was soon regulated to a training only weapon. Large stock piles were given to the Klingons who had mix feelings about the weapon as well. However the weapon remained in use as the principle vehicle mounted small arms phaser on ground vehicles during the Dominion war.
Type IV Support Phaser
Introduced: 2364 (withdrawn 2372)
Targeting: -1 (+1 difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 – 16
Damage: -10 (To all damage results)
Range: 10/ 40/ 320/ 2,880m
Size: 134 cm long
Mass: 10 kg
Duration: 5000 Charges (Self-contained battery, non re-loadable)
Crew: 1 with assistant gunner
Skill: Heavy Weapons (Support Phaser) 1(2)
Also Used by: Bajor, Feringi Notes:
The Type IV phaser shared many performance characteristics with the Type III phaser rifles including its general dislike from the troops. However it was a start in the right direction and its basic shape, resembling an older Earth weapon called a LMG, was popular with the troops even if its heavy weight was hindrance to its full acceptance. Largely withdrawn before the war, the weapon did see action with Planetary Defense Forces in the wars early months.
Type IVB Support Phaser(Compression)
Introduced: 2372
Targeting: 1 (-1 Difficulty for all shots)
Settings: 1 – 18
Damage: Varies by power settings
Range: 10/ 50/ 500/ 5,000m
Size: 149 cm long
Mass: 13.95 kg
Crew: 1 gunner, 1 assistant gunner
Energy: 8,000 charges (re-loadable)
Also Used By: Federation Only Notes:
Introduced the same year as the Type IIIB compression rifle the Type IVB Support Phaser was an instant hit with the troops it was given to and well liked and became the backbone of ground force squads with some squads having as many as two of the weapons in there possession. The high rate and volume of fire of the support phaser was the crucial factor in repelling many suicidal Jem’Hadar attacks near the wars end.
