This is a different timeline from that of the TOS of our memories, or so it is said on other boards that I have read. I dislike the entire Kirk the brash young ensign stepping above and over all those more seasoned officers, but hey, the combat leader is the one who stands up and says follow me, right? I will watch this Star Trek, but maybe I am going in with to many expectations, and baggage from the timeline that I have been a fan of. Maybe I need to stow those before going in to watch it.

Well without really knowing the plot, it has to be said, is this really dissimilar to the plot we know? The Cannon is Kirk was the youngest ever Starship captain, maybe this event (or one like it in the other timeline) is why. Beyond fanon, no canon exists as to why, as far as I know, so it's just as good a reason as any?!

It's also not completelly unrealistic as a concept: In times of peace, it's very unlikely, but in war, as you say, the one who stands up and says 'follow me' is often the leader, and the person who can get them out alive, and it'll probably earn them a medal. Kirk (canon) is known for thinking outside the box, doing reckless and dangerous things, and taking huge gambles based only on his ego, so it fits!

Has there been any change to this? I'd really like to get my hands on that piece of music...

I managed to source the music, but the quality isn't very good, not compared to the trailer, which sticks in your mind!

FYI for those who hadn't figured it out, these are the guys who did the music for the trailers, and they appear to be trailer music specialists haha

I have found this as well: Again, not perfect quality, but at least something

I found a fairly decent copy of the track used in the trailer, as well as several of the compilations which Two Steps From Hell has issued.

    Nice.

That piece should have made it on the original Soundtrack of the movie.

I can't shake the feeling that this movie will be a (hopefully good) action movie, that happens to have similarities to Star Trek (names, technology), but not much else.

Especially when I read in the paper this morning (Star Trek is out today in France, but I'll be watching it this Saturday) an interview where Abrams says something along the lines of "I remember Star Trek being very chatty with little action. So I decided to have more action and less talk". That sentence really chilled me (Ok, I apologize, that had not to do with the trailer, but I needed to vent somewhere).

    Yeah, that bothers me too.

That is very much what I expect. But I still hope it'll be recognisable as Star Trek.

We have tickets for tonight's showing of Star Trek and I have come down with some kind of stomach illness. Couldn't get any sleep last night.

I'll have to see if I'll make it to the cinema tonight at all

So, just in case I can't go and see the movie tonight, I would want to know, where I could read something about it?

What parts of Canon are being radically changed? Are we actually 'losing' the old Canon/timeline/Star Trek or what?

As Memory-Alpha.org has closed itself for the time being, they won't be of any help to me. Wikipedia isn't that forthcoming either.

So any good pointers for me?

A brave little theory, and actually quite coherent for a system of five or seven dimensions -- if only we lived in one.

    I won't see it tonight.

Just made the call to get the tickets picked up at my place. I'm too sick to sit still in a movie theater chair for some 150 min. And I woulnd't want to give my friends the stomach stuff I have contracted somehow.

I am so angry with myself for catching a bug right now.

Let me know how it was, Tobian, will you please?

Will do, but it will probably be tomorrow before I can report, as it's on at midnight, so I am going to be very tired for work tomorrow
