    Ruptured ligament in ankle

    Hey guys.

Anyone here with a medical background? I have a question regarding experience: I have had a little sports accident while playing soccer this sunday. I twisted my right ankle and now have a ruptured ligament in it.

Can anyone tell me, how long I'll probably be out of comission? I kinda need to be able to use that foot for my student's job: Selling gummibears in a store needs to healthy feet I can put my full body weight on...

Cut I have bad news for you, ligament, being a dense tissue, take nearly as long as bones to heal properly. The good news is, as long as you don't force yourself too much the pain should diminish or maybe even vanish in a few days. If your planning on doing a lot of activity, though, I'd recommend investing in some form of ridged ankle brace (ACE Bandage makes a decent one that velcro’s on with full lateral support). While I have no idea the types of stores Germany has, you should be able to find the brace at the same location you’d go to have a prescription filled (drug store, pharmacist, Wal-mart).

Was this a trained medical diagnosis? If so the medically trained person looking at it should be able to give you a more accurate and professional prognosis. I'm just defaulting to what I know through 15 year old training and personal experiences.

Thanks Phoenix! It was something like that that I expected. Pain is already tolerable as I write this. I have to wait for the swollen tissue to calm down and then I shall see a physician, that will talk to me about a ankle brace.

Thanks for the kind words so far.

I have good healing properties. I hope to return to the sports field sooner Ä(or later) =

Based on my own experience with ankle injuries, expect a full recovery in six to eight weeks. That brace will be essential, but also get a pair of crutches just so you can get around easily if your ankle starts to ache badly from exertion.

Six to eight weeks for a full recovery would be accaptable. I hope that I can start working again a bit ealier.

Crutches are already at hand, or should I say in hand?

Ooo, that's gotta hurt! Yeah, it'll take a bit. Just make sure you don't overstress it too early. I've seen quite a few people push too soon on leg/foot injuries and it can really drag the healing process out.
