Which movie would you like to be able to see again 'for the first time'?

On a german website I visit rather often, the users came up with the question, which movie they'd like to be able to see again 'for the first time'.

This blank space in the mind was to be established with that device used by the MIB in 'Men in Black'.

So, my first guess would be:

    Matrix.

Giving that question a bit more thought, I might come up with more.

So, what would be your choices?

I think it would be the Lord of the Rings trilogy, for me.

When it came out, there was such excitement with each release and I couldn't wait for the 12 months to roll around to see the next book.

Now, though, I watch it and I critique every part that is not right or was added to make it more appreciated by non-Tolkien fans. Don't get me wrong, I love it and will continue to watch it over and over, but it is not the same.

With your choice of Matrix, I can watch that and be wowed everytime because there is no canon that was trounced on by some screenwriters... so, I would like to have back the first time excitement again of the LotR.

Star Wars. Back when it was just Star Wars, not Episode IV: A New Hope.

And The Princess Bride. Can you imagine watching it and not being able to quote every line by heart?

Tough choice. Funnily enough, I used to dream of such a device when I was a kid, only it was to be able to read my comic collection.

Maybe I would watch Star Wars (the 1979 movie), but what I would erase from my mind would be not only the movie, but also all the memories of people who told me "It's the best movie of the century" and "What, you're 20 and you've never seen Star Wars ? How do you cope ?". That would allow me to see to what my dislike of the movie is actually due.

Otherwise, that would probably be the Star Trek movies (and, come to think of it, most of the series too). I'll decide in a few days if that includes also the last movie, and if the memory swipe must happen before or after the viewing

Very tough call, but I'd have to say Lord of the Rings for the simple fact that I recall how deeply moved I was by the film(s). I'd just come out of a dark time in my life when the very fact that I'd see my next birthday was in constant doubt. I cried constantly toward the end of Return of the King, I'm not embarrassed to admit. I wept for joy that I'd survived crushing despair and suicidal depression to witness the concluding chapter of one of my most cherished authors' work transformed with reverence, awe, and mastery into a film of tragic power and sublime beauty. I remarked to my companion as we left the theater that I believed Tolkien would have been pleased with and flattered by the end result.
