I seem to recall having seen a (german) cover of a TOS novel showing I think Kirk and Spock in Movie Era uniforms as well as the tip of the tale of a whale.

It was one of the first ones I read. Author went to my university. About a generation before I did mind you...
What kinda scares me is I remember this sorta stuff after a several year Trek sabbatical...
