    Using Star Trek the Art of the Film I generated up a starship design for their version of the Kobayashi Maru.

    Star Trek XI the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701

    In Star Trek the Art of the Film it states that the Enterprise is 1200 meters with a tick mark for feet so I generated this as the first design. That is the ship presented here and I have generated other scales to match more sensible starships.

    Critique and appreciation

    For the Kabayashi Maru - that is a lot of phaser weaponry, for a civilian ship. Still, given the limited arcs you specified, you need it. I'd tweak it so the arcs are port, starboard, and aft, so the Captain understands that his job in combat is to run away. The Emergency transporters are only in the saucer section. Does this mean that people in Engineering are SOL if something happens (then again, maybe that is where the explosions start, so they are dead already). For the cargo transporter, with two pads, and a total of 200 kg transported, that is only 100 kg at a time. You could get a pair of crewmen with an anti-grav platform (or a handtruck) to move things just as easily.

    To get more SU:
    Toning down the amount of quarters might be a useful idea. Maybe change 15 of the Luxury Quarters into Expanded, freeing up 12 SU for more cargo. As this ship isn't a science vessel, I'd also want to drop the number of probes to 10, freeing up 2 more SU. This gives you 14 more SU, plus 1 extra SU from that not used, for 15 SU, or an additional 500,000 cubic meters of external cargo you can carry. By doing this, you have more than tripled the cargo capacity, allowing for fewer vulnerable refueling ships needed.


    Nicely upsized ships for the new Star Trek. I guess after having one of their ships get slapped by the Reman mining vessel, the Federation decided that building ships that could take care of themselves was a good idea. They are slow, but that is exactly what is to be expected.

    Too many weapons maybe. What's that saying you can never have too many weapons! Ha! Ha! Ha!

    How about just three like the Franz Joseph's versions of the Salidin and the Hermes classes and with Photon Torpedo Launcher firing two torpedoes.

    When I drewe up the Maru I wasn't thinking in the terms of combat I was making a cool looking cargo ship seen in the movie.

    Personally the only change I would really make in the Maru would be cutting the external tanks in half, and adding in a little more shielding.
