We are in the process of adding a small Romulan ship to our game and I am looking for tips on what to do with it mission-wise.
Some background info: Currently we hace a space station (upgraded version of the good old K-7), and two Starfleet vessels (one science ship and one strike cruiser). The Romulan one will have mixed crew (Federation, Klingon and Romulan) since all three are in a stable alliance.
The ship will be a THEREUS-class Bird of Prey and have a compliment of around 30.
Assuming the science ship is given the mapping and 'analysing the special effect of the week' jobs, and the strike cruiser gets the action-oriented assignments... I'd say the new ship fills the slot that DS9's runabouts did in later seasons- that is, it's a handy, small transport craft that can get into trouble easily.
