    Willpower Reactions

When should I have players roll these? Lots of edges and command professional abilities indicate bonuses with them, but in 3 sessions we have yet to roll even one. I admit I run a dice low game, but that is ridiculous.

The only reaction that ever seems to get used is quickness.

Maybe I am missing something fundamental in the system...

Willpower is pretty handy for those pesky psi-villains. Otherwise it does fall into the dust bin if you've not many of those.

And I use Savvy as a replacement Sense Motive and similar uses. I hate to think Quickness gets top billing

As stated. Willpower is useful resiting Psi...

Thats not the end of it though. Should your caharacter get captured and tortured, you would use it there to see whether they cave in under pressure.

What about those negative attributes where the character has to try and push past a phobia or anything where mind over matter is important, you would need willpower to stay on the course and see the task through.

Willpower is actually quite important, it shows simply how mentally strong your character is.

But you are right until you need it you will find yourself wondering what all the fuss is about... Right up until you fail a tast for the lack of it...

I use a lot of different rules (both from all the Star Trek Books and LOTR books), so I made my own Rule book covering most of the commen rules that I use in the Game (with my own twist), the book is not entirly finished, but feel free to use what you want:

For other Will power uses see Fear on pg 10

Nice work on this! I just got done compiling a document of my supplemental rules for a different game (and it was about the same length as yours), so I know it takes a lot of work.

We use Willpower lots ! Our Narrator tends to use it to replace Savvy rolls if the situation is appropriate. For example, we have one character who has a very unique Flaw called Pherempathic Feedback.

Basically, she gives off pheromones like a Deltan, plus a sort of involuntary projection of her emotions in certain circumstances. She doesn't know she does this, but if another character gets exposed to her she can have the same effect on them as a Deltan.

Tam (our Narrator) will have other characters resist her with a Willpower roll. This reflects that the character is resisting more of a subconscious influence than what a Savvy roll is usually used to resist.

We use all the reactions - Quickness gets used the most in combat. But, Stamina is used a lot by our characters to resist fatigue and physical stress (Chief Engineer McBride pulling an all-nighter to prepare a class-1 probe to ride the tail of a photon torpedo, or Dr. Cole having to work 24 hours straight to devise an inoculation for people poisoned by their own water supply). Savvy and Willpower (aside from the example above) get used about equally.

I love your rules !! I'm guessing you intend to update ? Because I'd love to see what you do with the combat basics and courage points. We've done a few house rules on both topics.

IKI, if you'll tell me how you want it credited, I'll post your house rules document on the BTFF website.
