Lone Wolf - I used to love those books - surprised no one ever made them into an RPG. Though I was always bummed the only way to beat book two was to not give the magic spear to the valiant soldier...

I'm using my mundane name as I started posting during the Spacedock trials. Otherwise, I probably would have used my 'pen name' from an online game that I used to work on (Modus Operandi).
Bob
Thanatos comes from Greek mythology. God o' Death, as I recall. I chose it fer a couple of reasons:
1) I'd suffered a loss in my family at the time I started using it and felt very... close to death, prolly unhealthy but whatever
2) I always considered the name cool, even before I had any clue as to its original holder (the Greek Death Gawd)
3) It sounded cooler than my old Hotline handle (Sum1)
maybe not the most original name... but its beats the thing on my birth certificate
as fer the report thing, Styrofoam, that's fine by me. Hope it helps some.
LOL! Good point eh?<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by Doug Burke:

Actually here is a question, I would like to change my handle hereabouts...how can one do so? Is it even possible?

Ferengi Rule Of Acquisition #76: Every once in a while, declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies.
For those not familiar, it's a BattleTech thing. "Sho-sa" is Japanese for the rank of Major, and the Kurita part is Theodore Kurita, who later became the head of the Draconis Combine, one of the five great houses. I just love the Combine stuff.
I usually use "Centurion" for a nick (for the Roman and battlemech references) and didn't really want to use it here 'cuz I knew everyone would think "Romulan." I'm cantakerous that way.

I was looking for something that sounded neat, so I started with Greek mythological names and played around with them until I came up with this one. Now unfortunately I have something so hacker-esque that I can't use my email on resumes.![]()
Hmmm... my name is Joe Mandala. Back when, video games would only let you use 6 characters (quite an upgrade from the previous 3-character limit) to identify yourself on the high score board. That left me joeman. It seems to have stuck.

My name is from my longest-running AD&D character from years ago (circa 1987, I believe).
Aldaron Stonewalker was a ranger who served as a scout in his nation's military during a great war. He spent much of his time leading raids with the dwarves of the Stone-Step Mountains (hence his name) and ended up something of a hero.
His name was based on an obscure being of power (one of the Valar, IIRC) from the Tolkien mythos: Aldaron, the Lord of Forests or somesuch - I thought it was appropriate for a ranger.
I believe that would be Olorin, which was Gandalf's name in Aman (where the "gods" hang out). The ranger/hunter 'god' was Orome (with umlauts over the 'e').

I'm just one more person who borrowed the name of the character they play the most. Commander Shannon Powers is a hot pilot type in our STNG/DS9 games. Likes the SAF and the Valkyrie. Got royally chewed out by the Captain of the USS Vanguard when she barrel rolled the USS Osprey (Talon class) just prior to landing in the recover bay before reporting for duty. You know the type...

Miymaani Shaar was a *very* long-running MUSH character of mine, who I played from her arrival at the Academy as a very quiet, solicitous, and formal Andorian who was raised in an Andorian temple monastery.(she was the equivalent of a nun, trained in temple architecture, and joined Starfleet during a Klingon conflict due to a shortage of engineers and an enigmatic pronouncement by her elders that there was some destiny involved. )
When the character retired, it was twenty six years later in game, and she was an Admiral, mother of three, and Chief of Starfleet Engineering, having devised the largest single-ship spacelift in Federation history, as well as finally learning to order a "Peet-sa."![]()
OK Styro', My "handle" if you will, comes from a warm spring night out in the desert five miles north of Reno NV in 1990. It was just me, my former girl friend, a large bon-fire, oh yeah and about 30 rowdy drunken high school students/friends on the weekend after the end of the school year. Any way several things happened that night that led to the name of "Phoenix" the most memorable of them was when I got just a little to close to that afore mentioned bon-fire, slightly doused in 151. Thank whomever for large bodies of water within a short sprint, and the fact that other than the loss of a few arm hairs I was alright.
Any how some of the other things are of a more personal nature...sorry...but I plead the fifth...
Phoenix...no longer burning sooo brightly

Tmutant, the archaeologist of Forum.trek-rpg.net! StyroFoamMan probably thought this thread was dead and buried, but not deep enough. Bwahahaha!
Tmutant is a wee bit strange. I was born with no wisdom teeth, so I am a mutant, or at least odd. (When I joined the Air Force, the dentist X-rayed my whole head looking for them. Apparently, wisdom teeth can wander around the skull, ending up in eye sockets, sinus cavities, etc.) My first name is Tim. And the bit about "Some men call me..." is from Monty Python and the Holy Grail when Tim the Necromancer introduces himself.

I couldn't think of a good alien name, for some reason Bob kept coming up in my mind and everyone was taunting me to name him Bob. People around me got tired of waiting so they started to pick gaming manuals, my brother picked up a Starcraft book and Chrysanthos was written on the back of it. It was a small cocoon for the Zerg Kerrigan (I think), I took the word. Originally it was supposed to be one word, Krysanthos, but it was too long and everyone started calling him Antos. So I seperated it into Khrys and Antos for a last name.
I still have the same character though he's a captain now.
