    Another 20th century vehicle

    Digging through the piles of hand and printed Spacedock materials created for our games over the many years, Jewel and I came across this a tank generated for an adventure in the 20th century that took a turn that left the Tank unused. I thought that it would make a curiosity for posting. This is a representative of the tank in engagement with a starship phaser battle. The tanks armor little match for a Federation Phaser array. A single shot from the phaser bank of almost any ship can vaporize the tank and leave a satisfactory crater in its wake. Let me know if it works for you.

    That's quite cool
    It'd be fun to use something like this if the characters were stuck on a lower tech level planet and being attacked by "our" technology level weaponry.

    Now let's see a couple of F-22 Raptors taking on a runabout

    Well that was done in the same adventure, but it was a F-14 and a Type 8 shuttle. The shuttles shields were strong enough to take a direct hit from a pair of missiles.

    On the ground with the shields down the Tank or aircraft weapons could easily disable a shuttle or starship so that it could not leave the surface or make it space worthy at least.

    In searching through all these papers we have come across several ships and things that I will be posting over the next few days.

    You know, I've always wondered what the US government would do if a starship entered orbit or tried to land.

    Or, what it would be like if a pre-warp civilisation came into contact/conflict with a post-warp one.

    There have been many movies and books about encounters with aliens. It would depend on whether the aliens were hostile or friendly. If they were hostile they would be like H.G. Wells’s novel The War of the Worlds and Independence Day. If they were more subtle about it like the aliens from the 80’s TV series of V and the modern 21st century version. If they were friendly they would be like Gene Roddenberry’s Earth Final Conflict’s first season where they aliens have only recently arrived.

    One of the better environment I have seen is in the first season of Battlestar Galactica where they human’s have already settled several planets and the Galactica salvages what they think is a ship with answers to earth and they humans are surprised to see an advanced human species has them in their clutches. This parallels modern history at the time.

    Then the X-file chronicles the possible contact with humanity the gray aliens. But the funniest has always been for me it Spaced Invaders.

    A few years ago Allen Dean Foster wrote a book they Steven Spielberg say that he could not or would not make. It was about the first contact. It has been several years’ sense I read the book and forgotten what it was about.

    Then there is the graphic novel and the up coming movie Cowboys and Aliens

    So much can be done with the first contact scenarios.

    Yeah, but the one thing that never feels right about Earth meets aliens stories is how we always act friendly (that's to say the ones were they don't attack us outright).

    World politics is pretty much dominated by the US these days, and it's hard to see hardline US conservatives not pushing for a tough guy stance.


    But aside from that, what about a covert attempt to salvage a deralict spacecraft? What would happen if a team was sent to claim a spacecraft and it turned out to be from the future... And someone from the future showed up to take it back? Messy.

    For the covert side ET and John Carpenter's They Live and the X-file conspiracies. As for the salvage of an alien craft I would say the John Carpenter's The Thing and Sphere.

    Politics is always a mess to deal with when it happens. Politicians always have an agenda that may not always be in the best good of everyone but it is the way the world is.

    In the over all we are a good people but their are individuals are the worst of the worst and then spread across the middle. I have seen the kindest people and the worst of the worst.

    It's one of the reasons TNG's First Contact is one of my all-time favourite episodes. Seeing the whole X-Files thing from the other perspective was great, and I loved the nurse who wanted to make it with an alien - awesome play with the Kirk trope, not to mention a sly dig at the Lone Gunmen.

    I really wished they'd revisited that civlisation...hmmm...gives me an idea...

    UFO – Unidentified Flying Object

    This is a generic UFO that can be used in any adventure. The biological stats would be the same as the Vree from Babylon 5 RPG for the Grays or the Asgard from Stargate SG1 RPG. This UFO is not the most advanced vehicle for combat but it uses stealth and usually is visiting less developed worlds such as pre warp Earth. This ship has medium yield shielding and a medium yield weapons system. The ship is a smaller vehicle to a larger mother ship that I have not yet created. That was the adventure idea that we based the around the ship but never played as we went off on another angle in play. This would make a good ship for salvage in a game with the ship caught in a glacier or buried in the desert where the ship can be excavated from where it crashed. With most of the systems disabled in the crash the Cryo chambers would still be active and be functioning with power feed off the reserve power system that would take centuries to drain off.

    The appearance is the classic pie plate looking saucer.

    The X-files I can take in small bursts. One episode a week can be a little to often for my taste. I like them but I can only watch it once in a while.

    An odd thought has just crossed my mind (no, really), what would a pre-warp fighter-carrier look like? You don't need a flight deck, just launch bays and recovery bays with the hanger inbetween. And how big would it be?

    It would easily be one to five kilometers in diameter with several docking bays much like the V mini series mother ship.

    That's 3 times the size of a Nimitz class carrier, minimum! Why do you figure it would be so big?

    Also, how do you estimate the damage of 20th/21st century weapons?

    The mother ship would be a small city size ship. It would park somewhere nearby the system that it wants to explore. The mother ship would have forty of the saucers. The ship could park there for years or a century for a long time research such as antropology or harvesting needed material from the planet.

    This is similar to the V ships.
