Small Civilian Cargo Transport

Here is a ship that is several years old in our games and has appeared not only in our game with the U.S.S. Discovery and Hawkeye as the same ship. It is a small trading vessel Encountered many times by the crew of the Discovery that has a comical aspect to the encounters. The Encounters have a humanoid trader that always cracks a joke about the deal and is convenient place to get a thing that can set off the ship on an adventure such as a treasure map to a secret the origins of all life in the galaxy. The Discovery encountered the ship seven times and once was during the Dominion War rescuing it from a Jem’Hadar Attack ship.

The small ship from TNG episode of “Most Toys” inspired this small ship. Kivas Fajo’s small cargo ship displayed there. Although I think Fajo’s ship was a little larger than this one, it wasn't that much bigger.

Although the Tito-class is smaller than the Antares-class it is a nice little vessel that can be used in any number of scenarios. Smuggling is a good use of this vessel. Although I can see many adjustments to this vessel I have never made changes to this vessel as it was never needed in the games. It usually only shows up when the Trader shows up in the story.

The trader runs a gambit of several star systems near the boarders of Federation, Klingon and Romulan territories crossing the boarders freely and usually not hassled. Cargo’s range from Romulan and Klingon liquors to exotic items found in the flea markets of the galaxy.

It is clearly not a combat vessel. The Trader in the command of this vessel has always dealt honestly with the Federation, Klingon and Romulan empires but not all traders would do so that would have the command of this class ship.

We plan to use this vessel again in the coming months with its owner and crew never really changing. This adventure will be a non-Starfleet adventure with a crew and the trader on a mission for treasure.

This is not my most favorite ship but it sits up near the top of a short list. I see it is one of the truest ships in design; small, simple and efficient. Not a threat to anyone but can carry enough cargo in short trips to a nearby system to bring enough Gold Pressed Latinum for the owner to keep his ship and crew well paid and some luxuries on hand.

As for commerce with a ship this size, much like trade in the Caribbean circa 1700’s a ship carrying several hogsheads of quality barrels Rum. This would be like an early trading sloop running between several islands easy pray for pirates. This was a scenario that Dave and I came up with but never used in this venue, but we did in a Pirates of the Caribbean like game last January. A small trade vessel will always have cargo worth something to a pirate.

In one year this ship could make as little 5 planets per year covering 25 light-years of travel at only Warp three staying a few days but could also make 60 planets covering over 300 light-years at warp six and staying at least one day at port. I figuring a few days layover-transferring cargoes off and on to the ship and twenty planets and covering one hundred light-years in a year.

Notes: Though this vessel is small and had limited power, scraping all the shielding, warp engine and what is not basic needs the ship can put enough power to run the Class 6 cloak. This has never been used in the games it would be a smugglers tool. A modification of the warp core could allow an even more powerful cloak to be installed.

The name of the class comes from a character from Robert E. Howard’s works of Conan “Queen of the Black Coast”; Tito was an Argos merchant that encountered Conan. I thought that the name was fitting for a class of cargo ships.

Retail Cost: 6000 bars of Gold Pressed Latinum from a reasonable dealer for a new ship fresh from the space yard for each modification the cost would be plus 20 bars per SU of modification. Like the class 6 cloaking device would cost 210 additional bars of Gold Pressed Latinum. A used ship with a five thousand light-years on the odometer would cost 4000 bars and a very well used and rundown ship could cost only a couple thousand.
