I like this idea, except for one sticking point. How to get the wounded TO the planet.

2 theories come to mind:

1 put the characters on the planet in the war zone where the battle is taking place. Replace the ambulances with shuttlecraft. Voila!


2 put the characters on a safer planet. Have Olympia class ships do triage at the front, and shuttle them to the starbase for more involved surgery?

As for characters well your commander would have to be a Col Potter type, a no nonsense Starfleet Vet. (I couldn’t see Blake being a commander in Starfleet).

You could get way with the rest of the Mash arc types except for Klinger….. Wait you could get awy with that. The Voyage epsido where Janway takes the misfits on a shuttle ride to set them straight. Any of those character could make a prefer Klinger type character, but not so over the top</font>

Another way you might be able to get away with Klinger types is with Compulsion (Transvestism) or replace/modify "Medical Condition" to include "Psychological Condition".

I agree with your analysis of Potter. Probably a Tellarite type too.

Actually for the ship to ship , a combat medical vessel on ethat can zip in and zip out would be superbeb for this, as for the rest well same old , same old . Ground warfare, deals with a ground hospital unit, maybe a detachment from the starship.

SPeaking purely pragmatically, in a replicator society, trained and loyal personell are incredibly valuable. Add this to the Federation's humanitarian (pardon the speciesist language) ethics, and you get that medical vessles and such MASH units can be incredibly vital.

Lt. Col. Henry Blake: Non-military pushover doctor, easy going

Major Frank Burns: Anal, patriotic, military doctor. Brings a lot of grief on himself for his being TOO serious.

Radar: Green company clerk kid

Klinger: bucking to get out on a section 8

Houlihan: competent, military brat, head nurse. 9 kinds of passion screaming to find an exit

Mulchahy: camp chaplain

Winchester: Competent, pompous doctor. Would rather be home (or maybe on Risa)

Hawkeye, BJ & Trapper: Practical jokers, good doctors.
