As a resident of Texas it is my firm belief that Texas should have gone independant of the CSA (Texas was the only state that had the right to cecede from the Union, a right that it gave up only recently) and made as large of a landgrab as possible from all that juicy western territory.

Seriously though, getting back to the language thing, I'm a firm supporter of english as the official language of the United States. Like I said, I live in Texas. I was born in El Paso and currently reside in the Dallas area. My main point is this: If you were to go to Germany to live and possibly become a citizen of said country, what would be the first thing you would do? How about Paris, France? Moscow, Russia? You learn the language, of course. Communication is the cornerstone of civilization. By ensuring that everyone is able to communicate, it greases the wheels that move our society along, making it that much easier to get things done.

    That's just my opinion, though.

What about Switzerland, China, India, South Africa, or Paraguay? Knowing more than one language is good for you.

Yes I know Cochrane, remember I played in the Air Wing v Warbird Simulation with you.

As far as the official language thing. We here in California have an official State Language, and it has changed nothing. Honest, we still have all government documents available in multiple languages.

You see it's necessary to be multilingual when you have people who speak several languages. And even if EVERYONE spoke on language, think about how easy you can talk behind everyone's back infront of them. Shoot, I tried to get a Tagalog Class started at my High School way back when, and the only reason why it didn't start up was the fact that other Filipinos in my school thought for a bit and realized that others would find out what they were saying.

Furthermore, those who speak more than one language are better off in this increasingly more Globalized world. And not only that, those who are fluent in multiple languages are open to highly paid jobs that single language people can't apply to do to lack of knowledge.

I only scanned this topic,, so I don't know if Texas was mentioned.

But Texas was never ratified as a state in the USA. Interesting point to ponder.

I come from Michigan. The toughest state in the Union. The sportsman's paradise is quite awe inspiring, so I have more insight that others (*cough*Texans*cough*). Besides that we have no offical language, how about the fact that we have two US flags. You heard me right, the one that everyone uses (including the US Government) is the military flag. The actual flag, looks inverted (white background, blue stars, etc., etc.,). No one uses the other one, so I guess it's kinda moot.

Anyway, we should annex Canada (I'm pretty sure they're not really a country) and force some of our current territories in the South Pacific into statehood (hey, I'm sick of just 50 stars). As for my vendettas, Michiganders have this kind of civil war going on... Yupers (which are essentially Canadians, just smarter), Texans (You people are to proud. And of what? Whoo! we're loud and...) and Republicans (20th century), especially voters of the 43rd president. The Great Depression: The president eats lavishly while WWI soldiers outside demand their bonus. What happens you ask? He sends MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Patton (In that ranking) to attack these people. A few people (including children) are killed. The '80s: The 40th president falls asleep and our economy drops, a circumvention of congressional power is almost established, and he almost escalated the Cold War. 2000 Elections: What convinced you people? Tax cuts? C'mon, you peons must've known that he was going to benefit himself. The military spending? After he made sure that his family was set for the next century, did you really think that we have enough? The man is a damn puppet controlled by advisors and party leaders (Communism ring a bell?). Wait... the best yet. He said that he followed the teachings of Christ, but yet he supports capital punishment, with a fevor. President Clinton, which, I never really cared about that he did do those things, was the most important thing he could be, a diplomat. If you think that one's personal life is more important than their professional life (I didn't say unimportant, mind you), you have no buisness voting for anything.

    Matthew 15:4, Romans 1:32

Christianity does not oppose capital punishment.

Hmmn... I'll drop the Captial Punishment one.
But remember this, the Bible was influenced by earlier texts and standards (an eye for an eye). Besides, what version are you using?

"An eye for an eye" was an unusually fair standard for the time. Before that, the moral code more often was like "A life for an eye," or "A whole family branch for a life."

Making the punishment equal to the harm done... that was novel. Pity we don't do that today. We've grown soft, and the bad people know it.
