We've lost another of our heroes. Unfortunately, Neil Armstrong has passed away, aged 82, on Saturday.

Condolences to his family and friends. A sad loss indeed.

He was a very unassuming man, but because of the Apollo 11 mission, a true pioneer. I loved the story I heard from UK TV astronomer Patrick Moore, after the mission, during a tour of the UK in the 70's. After all the publicity interviews, Armstrong sat down with amateur astronomer Moore and said to him, something along the lines of "Thank goodness, now we can talk about the science!"

I think this quote from the article above, from NASA chief Charles Bolden paying tribute to him as "one of America's great explorers" sums it up.

"As long as there are history books, Neil Armstrong will be included in them, remembered for taking humankind's first small step on a world beyond our own."

Can't take that unique achievement away! RIP Neil Armstrong.
