    My new Game

I've got a new crew, a new place to run at, and none of the people are problem players!

Currently running The One Ring RPG. I also occasionally run Villains & Vigilantes (our campaign is in year 25) and WEG d6 Star Wars (both games are mostly on hiatus) and an annual game based on The X-Files (using Conspiracy X).

We had character creation yesterday and I ended with a male human science officer, a male ferengi engineer, a female bolian flight control officer, a male human tactical officer and a female klingon doctor.

A Klingon doctor, eh? May have problems with bedside manner. See the episode where Worf was Keiko's midwife for an example. Made the Holodoc look all touch'n'feely warm and fuzzy... (TNG Season 5 episode 5 "Disaster")

She's playing a klingon who joined starfleet to study neurological medicine, so as to still be a warrior (star fleet), and since klingons don't really do a lot of neurological medicine (episode: quality of life).

So she's not a GP. Good. Could be interesting to make her have to deal with a shift or two as duty medic, just to see what happens.

She is the ship's head medical officer, her specialty is neurological medicine though. Like how the Doctor was an expert in nanotechnology, Dr. Crusher was a specialist in unusual disease ala House, Dr. Bashir was a specialist in communicable diseases, etc.

She's going to have some interesting experiences, then. The basic tenets of Starfleet medicine include a focus on the amelioration of pain and suffering, where Klingons think pain is something to embrace and conquer. Talk about your "different strokes for different folks"! Lots of potential for roleplay there.

She's already talked about that one, the player has decided it would be dishonorable if she didn't fully become a star fleet doctor. It's honorable to follow the cultures of star fleet.

The first actual game is going to be this Sunday, I'm still having trouble coming up with the name of the ship.

The players are all very excited and ready to boldly go so to speak.

I'm also trying to figure out if I want to use the DS9 theme or find something more unique.

I tried to find some fan made versions of their star trek theme, but I couldn't find anything.

    Any suggestions?

I'm stealing this one (at the suggestion of a friend) for my ship and crew.

    You can't have it.

    Mine.

Your best bet, IMO, is to hit DANFS or the NavSource Photo Archive to see if anything strikes your fancy.

Look up original (Revolutionary War and War of 1812) ships like Constitution, Enterprise, Lexington, and Essex- and see who's mentioned in their annals.

Alternately, look up the Ticonderoga Class Cruisers and Essex Class carriers and see if anything leaps out at you.

Failing that, if you give us some idea of what your campaign looks like, we can offer suggestions for a name.

    No...seriously.

As a first offering from a dyed-in-the-wool Navy man, (and captain of the Essex) I offer the following for inspiration:

For you lubbers who don't know any better, that top-sail schooner is FLYING.

They talk about the difference between her and a modern racing boat- but Lynx is FAST, agile, and inescapably beautiful.

Look where the wind is blowing (watch the flag) and her direction of travel. She's tacking into the wind, not running before it.

Okay, that's my salt-water nerdgasm for the night.

    G'night all!

So, what class ship are you running? I'm assuming you're running it in the post-TNG-era. Enquiring minds want to know...

Akira Class, Thunderchild refit (because it looks cool in my opinion), I chose that class because it's not what the flag ship would be, it has more of a ToS and Voyager feeling. Especially since many akira class ships have been put into exploration duty post dominion war.
