    That's a lot of fire power and shielding for a science vessel, are you sure you aren't going for a heavy scout with your size 4 & 5 vessels? Why not increase the range of your sensors and up your science system rating? For the size 7 isn't that the size of the Akira or Excelsior class vessels? What niche are these ships trying to fill that aren't filled by pre-existing classes available?

    These vessels may be one kind of ship but are multi roll vessels. One day they are looking at planet X the next they are pratroling the nutral zone.

    The class 4 Alten looks to have more SU used than available. Trim it slightly?

    The Class 5 Alten only has a few more Laboratories than the existing Hokul'e vessel in the Federation Ship Recognition Manual (SRM1). There is no need for a new design here.

    The Class 7 Alten could already be duplicated by the Nebula class cruiser, using the modular pod feature. The Alten has no need for module change out, higher power generation, one additional Backup Navigational computer, two additional main and one additional backup Inertial Dampening field, and four additional points of Shield Threshold. Everything else the Nebula class is equal or superior in, including science capability and and weapons loadout, the two areas your Alten is supposed to compete in.


    What is the purpose of these vessels that is not already covered by existing designs? What holes do you see in the existing fleet makeup that need to be covered? If you want to make an upgrade to an existing vessel (like the Miranda class), see if that has already happened first.

    You do have the energy for making designs, but also add a few designer notes, explaining why such vessels would be needed. It is a good way for us to see your thoughts, what you want out of the design, etc.

    I wound up making a spreadsheet that lists all the Federation and Klingon ships, listing their size, science capability, warp engine, type and number of phasers, plus a few notes. That might be something to look into, so when you design a ship, you can compare your design with existing designs.
