    New Enlisted Specialists

    A while back I joked about Starfleet IT support (Operations) and hinted that I was thinking about Damage Control teams (Engineering). Well, it may be a tad superfluous, but I did develop them a little more fully. These roles, I feel, are more suited to enlisted personnel (36 DP templates), with Computer Specialists reporting in to a juinior Operations Officer (Ensign or Lt. jg), and dedicated Damage Control Teams probably reporting in direct to Chief Engineer...

    Anyway without further ado;

    Operations – Computer Technician (IT Specialist)
    Enlisted.
    This Operations Officer is a mainstay in the fleet, these are the dedicated computer techs that keep all automated systems up and running and respond to all faults reported in the computer systems. Starfleet’s ultra-modern and highly automated systems often leads them to believe that the fleet is incapable of operation without them… They are often assigned in small teams of 2-5 specialists lead by a Junior Operations officer who is also a computer or personnel specialist, and due to the nature of their role are rarely assigned to away team duties.

    Law (Starfleet Regs) 1(2)
    Personal Equipment (Choose Specialisation) 1(2)
    Security (Security Systems) 1(2)

    Engineering – Damage Control Specialist
    Enlisted.
    Part of the engineering crew, these are the repair teams that help repair damage the Starship has received and upkeep any scheduled maintenance. There are usually several teams of these specialists assigned to a Starship or facility. They are also vital in operations as during battle stations they are assigned in smaller damage control teams often working alongside security to patrol the vessel and identify any damage received, these are the guys reporting in any significant damage and assess casualties to the main CPU and Bridge, they are also often the first people on the scene so many also cross-train as paramedics, fire-fighters and .even in security procedures, just as many security personnel also cross-train to support them.
    Material Engineering (Structural/Spaceframe) 2(3) (Firefighting) (3)
    Personal Equipment (Environmental Suit) 1(2)

    Now, of course not everyone has an active station when the order goes out to report to Battle Stations, sure the Bridge, Medical, Tactical and Engineering personnel know what to do, and Security probably has a patrol route in case of a need to repulse boarders... But there are probably a shed load of junior officers in Command, Science and Operations who could be assigned an appropriate battle station in these conditions. It would make sense to train them up and once the battle stations order goes out, the handful of Damage Control specialists becomes an army...

    So here are the Training programs. Presented as a 'Tour of Duty' I figure that these would be used in a manner similar to those offered in the Players guide, where they can replace a full tour of duty during character creation (cost 10 DP) or the training can be purchased for existing characters in the downtime between games (cost 15 Experience). The additional DP is intentional if purchased as a subsequent tour as Starfleet is likely to prioritise these skills.

    Damage Control Training packages / 10 point Tour of Duty;
    Starfleet encourages all its personnel to undertake emergency training to support its dedicated Damage Control teams. These training classes are offered in all environments from hands-on training at Academy or Starbase facilities, or even remotely via the Holodeck. Many personnel choose to take more advanced training in these aspects in various fields, and these training packages are offered to all enlisted and commissioned personnel.

    EVA Specialist. These engineers specialise in hull maintenance and repair, often their work takes them outside and they have developed suitable zero-G skills. Many larger teams (or Gangs as they like to be known) work in ship-yards and Starbases, but it serves to have a team of specialists available in the field serving aboard a Starship, and their intimate knowledge of Starship hull tolerances and capabilities makes them a perfect fit for Damage Control teams.
    Material Engineering (Structual/Spaceframe) 1(2), Personal Equipment (Environmental Suit) 1(2), Vehicle Operations (Work Bee) 1(2), Zero-G Training +2

    Evacuation Specialist. These specialists are tasked with the evacuation of a Starship under emergency conditions. Their role involves the planning of evacuation drills, the maintenance of Lifepods and management of emergency supplies stored aboard to ensure that there is a zero margin failure during an emergency evacuation. These individuals tend to be highly focused and long term enlisted personnel due to the high levels of responsibility that lay upon them.
    Administration (Logistics) 1(2), Systems Engineering (Life Support) 1(2), Vehicle Operations (Lifepod) 1(2), Bold +1

    Firefighter. Specialist training in the art and ability of fighting fires. Artificial habitat environments are often maintained by potentially highly flammable risks, from an artificial oxygen environment, plasma power conduits and chemicals or fuels under pressure. A Fire in this environment can prove catastrophic and so specialists are trained to join damage control teams to manage and extinguish any fires.
    Command (Crisis Management) 1(2), Material Engineering (Firefighting) 1(2), Physical Science (Pyrotechnics) 1(2), Bold +1

    First Responder. These specialists tend to be the team leaders of the smaller Damage Control teams, these are the Senior NCO’s or Junior officers that rush into he areas of damage during battle conditions to assess damage, help casualties and report this into the Bridge, and manage appropriate resources to resolve the immediate danger, often under very dangerous conditions.
    Command (Crisis Management) 1(2), Ships Systems (Communications) 1(2), Engineering, Any (Choose Specialisation) 1(2), Rank +1

    Paramedic. Amongst the first responders are the Paramedics, these are the EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians) that support the medical teams. Starfleet likes to offer EMT training at all levels, as a ships doctor simply cannot be everywhere at once. The EMT training is designed to Triage any injured parties and prioritise casualties, enabling them to treat minor injuries in the field and send the most needy to Sickbay. EMT cross-training is common in the security department, and can also be useful on away teams, supplementing medical staff in times of crisis.
    Command (Crisis Management) 1(2), First Aid (Triage and choose Additional) 1(2), (2), Personal Equipment (Medical Tricorder) 1(2)

    From a game design perspective, I'd fold Firefighter into a 'Structural Damage' specialist, and give them material engineering skills. There's a risk when creating new specializations that they'll be too specific for either the PCs or GMs to use in-game.

    OK, so what do you suggest for the main template? Swap out the core skill package as;

    Material Engineering (Structural/Spaceframe) 2(3)
    Personal Equipment (Environmental Suit) 1(2)
    Ships Systems (Choose Specialisation) 1(2)
    Systems Engineering (Choose 2 Specialisations) 1(2), (2)
    With Firefighter training skills changing to;
    Command (Crisis Management) 1(2), Material Engineering (Structural/Spaceframe) 1(2), Physical Science (Pyrotechnics) 1(2), Bold +1
    Sound better?

    Yeah, that sounds like something applicable to more stuff that will come up in-game.
